Great list. Two questions: 1) Did you see 1980 as the "last stand" for Philly soul on the pop charts, particularly with The Spinners, The Manhattans, and The Stylistics? 1980 reminds me of 1995 when we saw the last Top 40 hits for groups such as Human League, Adam Ant and Simple Minds that helped to define, a decade or so earlier, the 80's New Wave sound. Or was it just an end of an era for some great groups on the pop chart with the sound evolving into the next phase of soul music. 2) I saw "The Wanderer" on your list and "On The Radio" below it. I love Donna Summer up until, "The Wanderer". While I applaud Ms. Summer going out of her comfort zone and evolving her music into a "new" type of soul with "The Wanderer", I never liked it just because it was so different than "Radio" and to me sounds somewhat generic. Prince I loved when he sounded different. Summer, for some reason, didn't do it for me with this song or, "Love Is In Control". What was it, and I ask you because you were listening intently during that time, that made you like "The Wanderer"? Did you see an evolution in her music? Or just like the song? Again...a great list. Thank you for sharing!

The thing I find amazing is the number of hits on this chart that I still have a copy of. I have the entire top 14 in my record collection (some in album form) and at least half of rest of the list.
