As many know, I hate the Long Distance Dedication feature. To me it is the most useless segment on a countdown show ever invented. However, I also have noticed in my personal trek through the charts chronologically and occasionally sliding an extra year's week in, that AT40s LDD's never seemed to become all that repetitive. For instance i listened to an AT40 show from June 1990 this week and "18 and Life" was a LDD. Plus, there was only 1 or 2 a week. Casey's Westwood One shows though there were 3 and every week you were almost guaranteed to hear at least 2 of a select handful of songs that got used over and over and over again. I think this is what made me hate them so much. My question is was the tight song selection on CT40 in large part because they added a second and eventually a third show and used the same dedication segments on all of them?

I know what you mean. I listened to a bunch of old CT40s recently and a lot of them had "Right Here Waiting" as the dedication.

And Wind Beneath My Wings, That's What Friends Are For, I Will Remember You, and after 1994 add "I'll Remember" to it.

And Wind Beneath My Wings, That's What Friends Are For, I Will Remember You, and after 1994 add "I'll Remember" to it. "I Will Always Love You" and "Hero", hits from late 1992 and 1993 respectively, were really heavily used as R&D's and, later, as LDD's on Casey's revived AT40 countdowns. And Shadoe's AT40 seemed to have an awful lot of requests for "Somewhere Out There".

I'm sure the Mariah Carey/Boyz II Men song "One Sweet Day" was used a lot from late 1995 through the end of the decade.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned what is possibly THE most overplayed LDD request of all - "Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion.

I've been threatening to do this for weeks and finally did so this morning. Today is the day I listen weekly to Casey's Top 40 from 20 years ago. Well, I have Total Recorder Professional edition so I can delete portions within a file I don't want, save those, and the undefeated parts mesh together. I deleted the references to the R&Ds on this show and the R&D segments. This may be the best Casey's Top 40 show I've ever heard.
