Alan O'Day has died. He had a #1 hit in 1977 with Undercover Angel and co wrote Rock N Roll Heaven with Johnny Stevenson of Climax for Sonny Geraci to sing. Climax didn't chart wiyh the song but a year later The Righteous Brothers hit with it and it was a big comeback for them.
He was 72 when he passed away on Friday.

A countdown fan at heart...he greatly enjoyed hearing edited AT40 segments of his #1 song climbing up & down with Casey's intros. & outros. Thanks to fellow collector Tom Best for having the shows to get to Alan.
Through a friend of mine, he asked my opinion on some songs he was working on. For my help, he send me an autographed b/w promo picture along with his unreleased rap version of "Undercover Angel" song. What a nice guy!! What a sad lost!!

Alan O'Day also wrote another #1 song....."Angie Baby" for Helen Reddy. Casey mentioned his name in a story about interpretations of the song's meaning on the 1/18/75 show. RIP.
And in a twist of fate, the 7/9/77 show when "Undercover Angel" hit #1 is scheduled to be played this year for the first time on Premiere.

Sad lost indeed....I had a cassette that i would play all the time with Hot's song "Angel in your arms" followed by Undercover Angel. Always thought these two songs complemented each other.

Another great artist gone. I couldn't get enough of that song in July of 1977. I also have the album version of Undercover Angel. It's 2 minutes longer than the single.

He will only be known for that one hit, "Undercover Angel". Now he is an angel in heaven, singing to all the angels, undercover or not.
R.I.P. Mr. O'Day. Thanks for a great tune.

For those of you who haven’t heard the show on syndication yet, I won’t give out its position in this year’s Top 100, but this week’s Lost 45s has the long version of “Undercover Angel” preceded by segments of one of his latter interviews with Barry Scott. This evening on WROR/Boston.
