Here are all the number ones on this upcoming Memorial day ‘13 AT40 optional special. Although offered this time to both the 70s and 80s versions, I’m posting it in this thread only since it was originally aired on July-4-1981.
A few words: This thread together with the other 70s counterpart is still in its formative experimental stage. I don’t know how long I will sustain it, but it’s still developing. For this special my “current, past, and future #1” designation doesn’t apply though. Rather, I have supplied all the number ones across multiple charts from the beginning of the Beatles’ chart dominance until the original broadcast of this AT40 in July 1981 only. Therefore, if any position was included in any subsequent compilation LP on Billboard's Album-chart at number one, it's been mentioned for only this period; so “1967-1970” is included, “1” album from 2000 is not.
I have also included in this post the British number one singles, but not the British #1 albums; since primarily during the 60s most UK and the US releases had different and un-identical tracks included on the counterpart albums on different sides of the Atlantic. And, as far as the British Singles goes, besides the ‘Record Retailer’ (now ‘Music Meek’) chart, #1s on two other established charts during this entire 20-year-or-so period is covered.; They are namely those of ‘New Musical Express’(NME) and ‘Melody Maker’. But I will mention the sources only if titles weren’t consensus number ones and didn’t hit the top on all the three UK charts. This multiple sourcing is only done to include ‘Please Please Me’ at #1, the subject of much discussion in the British chart circles.
#1 Hey Jude-The Beatles (#1 Hot 100 & included on #1 Top LP ‘`1967-1970’); (#1 British Single) #2 I Want to Hold Your Hand-The Beatles (#1 Hot 100 & on #1 Top LP ‘Meet the Beatles’); (#1 British Single) #3 Starting Over-John Lennon (#1 Hot 100 from #1 Top LP ‘Double Fantasy’); (#1 British Single) #4 Silly Love Songs-Paul McCartney & Wings (#1 Hot 100 & #1 Easy Listening from #1 LP ‘Wings at the Speed of Sound’)(#1 UK Single in NME) #5 My Sweet Lord-George Harrison (#1 Hot 100 from #1 Top LP ‘All Things Must Pass’); (#1 British Single) #6 Get Back-The Beatles (#1 Hot 100 & included on #1 Top LP ‘1967-1970); (#1 British Single) #7 My Love-Paul McCartney & Wings (#1 Hot 100 & #1 Easy Listening from #1 Top LP ‘Red Rose Speedway’) #8 She Loves You-The Beatles (#1 Hot 100 & included on #1 Top LP ‘The Beatles’ Second Album’); (#1 British Single) #9 Help-The Beatles (#1 Hot 100 from #1 Top LP ‘Help!’); (#1 British Single) #10 We Can Work It Out-The Beatles (#1 Hot 100 & included on #1 Top LP ‘Yesterday and Today’);(#1 UK Single, but w/flipside “Day Tripper”) #11 Coming up-Paul McCartney & Wings (#1 Hot 100 from #1 Top LP ‘McCartney II’) [Comment: Whatever version of the single, I’ve included it as part of ‘McCartney II’. Even though the live version wasn’t on the original LP, it was included as a bonus 7” inside many of its album release packages in 1980.] #12 Yesterday-The Beatles (#1 Hot 100 & included on #1 Top LP ‘Yesterday and Today’) #13 I Feel Fine-The Beatles (#1 Hot 100 & included on #1 Top LP ‘Beatles ‘65’); (#1 British Single) #14 Can’t Buy Me Love-The Beatles (#1 Hot 100 from #1 Top LP ‘A Hard Day’s Night’); (#1 British Single) #15 Something-The Beatles (flipside of “Come Together” at #1 Hot 100 from #1 Top LP ‘Abbey Road’, also included on #1 Top LP ‘1967-1970’) #15 Come Together (with “Something” at #1 Hot 100 from #1 Top LP ‘Abbey Road’, also included on #1 Top LP ‘1967-1970’) #16 Let It Be-The Beatles (#1 Hot 100 & #1 Easy Listening & included on #1 Top LP ‘1967-1970) [Comment: The single was the alternate version from what appeared on ‘Let it Be’ album which although being a number one album, I didn’t reference the single above as being taken from it.] #17 A Hard Day’s Night-The Beatles (#1 Hot 100 from #1 Top LP ‘A Hard Day’s Night’); (#1 British Single) #18 Band on the Run-Paul McCartney & Wings (#1 Hot 100 from #1 Top LP ‘Band on the Run’) #19 Hello Goodbye-The Beatles (#1 Hot 100 from #1 Top LP ‘Magical Mystery Tour’, also included on #1 Top LP ‘1967-1970’); (#1 British Single) #20 You’re Sixteen-Ringo Starr (#1 Hot 100) #21 Paperback Writer-The Beatles (#1 Hot 100); (#1 British Single) #22 Woman-John Lennon (from #1 Top LP ‘Double Fantasy’); (#1 British Single in the official ‘Music Week’ only). #23 Listen to What the Man Said-Paul McCartney & Wings (#1 Hot 100 from #1 Top LP ‘Venus and Mars’) #24 Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey-Paul & Linda McCartney (#1 Hot 100) #25 Eight Days a Week (#1 Hot 100 & included on #1 Top LP ‘Beatles VI’) #26 Love Me Do-The Beatles (#1 Hot 100) #27 With a Little Luck-The Beatles (#1 Hot 100) #28 Ticket to Ride-The Beatles (#1 Hot 100 from #1 Top LP ‘Help!’); (#1 British Single) #29 Photograph-Ringo Starr (#1 Hot 100) #30 The Long and Winding Road-The Beatles (#1 Hot 100 from #1 Top LP ‘Let It Be’, also included on #1 Top LP ‘1967-1970’) #31 Give Me Love-George Harrison (#1 Hot 100 from #1 Top LP ‘Living in the Material World’) #32 All You Need Is Love-The Beatles (#1 Hot 100 from #1 Top LP ‘Magical Mystery Tour’’,&included on #1 Top LP ‘1967-1970’)(#1 British Single) #37 Please Please Me-The Beatles (#1 British Single in ‘New Musical Express’ and ‘Melody Maker’ only) #39 Penny Lane-The Beatles (#1 Hot 100 from #1 Top LP ‘Magical Mystery Tour’, and on #1 Top LP ‘1967-1970’)(#1 UK Single in Melody Maker) #40 Nowhere Man-The Beatles (included on #1 Top LP ‘Yesterday and Today’)

Rayshae, I'm loving the list of number ones for the '70s & '80s shows, but I want to make a couple of suggestions to you:
1. Could you only list the number ones on the singles charts & not the albums charts? AT40 only counted down the singles.
2. Could you only do the American charts & not foreign charts? As the name implies, it is American Top 40.
Again, these are just a couple of suggestions. You don't have to use them.

In case, you’d be wondering what happened to these on-going threads, I’ll be out of town for the next couple of months. Since I won’t have access to my regular books and databases, I put these threads on hiatus for now. But, I still try to do short posts, if warranted, in other places in the pro-board. And answer my PMs.
