A beloved icon is about to take her place in TV heaven-Annette Funicello, the most popular of The Mousketeers, passed away Monday (4/8) at the age of 70-From 1955-1959,dozens of kids sat in front of their black & white sets every afternoon to watch "The Mickey Mouse Club". Funicello was the idol of many young men-She was getting tons of fan mail every week-During the run of "MMC",she pursued a recording career & had several hits such as "O Dio Mio","Pineapple Princess", & "Tall Paul",which was written about Paul Anka, whom she was dating at the time. Four years after "The Mickey Mouse Club" was off the air,Funicello teamed up with singer Frankie Avalon for a series of lighthearted films that were shown in theatres & drive-ins across the country-"Beach Blanket Bingo" & "Muscle Beach Party" were among the movies that featured Funicello & Avalon. Throughout the 70's,Funicello focused on becoming a full-time wife & mother although she did appear in several commercials for Skippy peanut butter-However,she & Avalon appeared in one more movie,"Back To The Beach" which was released in 1987-It was during the filming that Funicello found out she had trouble walking-She was then diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, which is a degenerative disease that attacks the central nervous system. For the last few years of her life,Funicello had been in a coma & was finally taken off life support yesterday. At this time, funeral arrangements haven't been made-RIP,Annette,you will never be forgotten.
