It seems like the first hour in the three hour countdowns frequently ends with songs on their way down. The positions in the upper 20s.
Anyone else notice that? The upper 20s being "cold" positions?

I always thought from '79 through '83, that positions 34-25 always had those songs that peaked at those positions and that they hovered there for a couple of weeks or more and then fell off. At least in my opinion 60-75% of songs in those positions.

Chrislc, the timing of your statement about the upper 20's sequence of songs usually being filled with droppers is peculiar, as Premiere's current 4/09/77 show has only one song between #26 and #30 having that downward movement; further, just one song from chart positions 20-32 dropped from its previous week's spot. Admittedly this chart may be the exception and not the rule. As such, could you kindly provide examples of charts to validate your belief about that "cold position"? Just curious.

Well, if I could get on to UMD I might be able to look that up! Grrrr

#17 was the hot spot when it was a three hour show. A lot of moves of more than 10 spots were in to the 17 position. Here are just some songs from that hit #1 in 1978:
Night Fever » Bee Gees 32 - 17 Stayin' Alive » Bee Gees 28 - 17 Baby Come Back » Player 38-17 Boogie Oogie Oogie » A Taste Of Honey 28 - 17 With A Little Luck » Wings 57 - 17
