Meant objectively, not subjectively.

... Personally, my favorite year was 1971 especially the latter half.... Agree totally. 1971 was the best year of the 70's. I like the spring and autumn especially. So many classic songs. More than once, after finishing to listen to a '71 Classic 70's re-broadcast, I've said to myself.."That was one hell of a countdown!"

@ countdown mike:
Well, then you must have missed "Pillow Talk"by Sylvia in 1973, as she wrote and produced "Sexy Mama" for the Moments, and certainly loaned them some of her, uh... mojo!
I am deducting one point from Chris for the all caps, and deducting 2 points if he really doesn't know who Lamont Dozier is!

I am deducting one point from Chris for the all caps, and deducting 2 points if he really doesn't know who Lamont Dozier is! I think that -3 puts me in negative territory. The caps were because I cut and pasted from Walt Bailey. I didn't want to spend time re-typing the whole thing. It was supposed to be fun. For me anyway. I have heard of Lamont but I sure don't remember that song, or ever hearing it, with the possible exception of AT40. It's one of those songs that made the Top 15 (or close to it) that I find suprisingly obscure (to me) despite having made it that high on the chart.

I was one who earlier posted about January 1973 being a low point in the 1970s. In listening to the 03/24/73 show this morning... Of the first ten songs on that show, eight would not crack the Top 30. Only "Daisy A Day" would get to #14, and "Little Willy" would peak at #3. Everything else would peak in the 30s. Has there ever been a show in which nine of the first ten songs (or even all ten) didn't reach the Top 30?
I know some people here like hearing obscure songs, and I enjoy a good mix of the lesser known hits with the more famous songs. Having 7 songs in a row peak in the 30s made for a long first hour. It was a better show than the late January show played earlier this year. It was great hearing gems like "Hummingbird" and "Space Oddity".
