This sounds like a movie about a crummy band holding a radio station hostage until the station plays the band's record. I think Brendan Frasier was in it...

That would be Airheads from 1994 also starring Adam Sandler, Steve Buscemi, Joe Mantegna, Michael McKean, Chris Farley, Ernie Hudson, Judd Nelson, David Arquette and Michael Richards!

There was another story similar to that one on 5/26/79 show except it was burglary. The story was about how a promo copy of Blondie's Heart of Glass was stolen from a radio station. There was only one of these in existence. How it was discovered was the funny part, a fellow employee called another employee of the station and that record was playing in the background. They go to the guys house and found out not only did he had stolen the 45 but other things from the station. It was evident this guy wasn't too smart in the first place. Most crooks arent.

If i remember right it was the 1978 album "Plastic Letters" that he took. non of the songs were hits in the U.S. and the album was an import (if i remember right). That was why when they heard it in the background they knew it was the missing album!

It was back in 1977 and it was an advanced test pressing of Plastic Letters. And they caught the guy that stole it because it hadnt been released commerically yet.
