One of the greatest teen tragedy songs of the rock era is "Leader Of The Pack"-The man who wrote it,George "Shadow" Martin passed away at the age of 71 on February 15th-His first composition prior to "Pack" was recorded by four teenage girls who attended Andrew Jackson High School in Queens,NY-Their group,The Shangri-Las,took "Remember (Walking In The Sand)" into the top ten in the late summer of 1964. The follow-up release was even bigger:"Leader Of The Pack" was written by Morton along with Jeff Barry & Ellie Greenwich-The motor noises were supplied by Morton who brought his own bike into the recording studio. "Pack" topped the pop chart in November 1964-Morton got his nickname "Shadow" because he tended to disappear which he blamed on alcoholism-To quote the late Paul Harvey:"And now you know the rest of the story".

Aerosmith did a great cover of "Remember (Walking In The Sand)" that appeared on their 1979 album "Night In The Ruts".
