I am not sure if it is an artist, but if he had two top 40 records on both ends of the 1970s, I think that Jim Henson may count, as there was a tribute to him on AT40 in late May or early June 1990. Jim Henson credited "Rubber Duckie" (1970) and "The Rainbow Connection" (1979) to Ernie and Kermit The Frog respectively. But still, they were both voiced by Jim Henson, and he *technically* was a recording artist as he released singles for those two songs back in the day.

I notice that "White Christmas" was played on episode: 12-17-1977. Did Casey do a tribute to Bing on that episode?

I have a vinyl copy of the show from 2-21-81 and there is a tribute to Bill Haley, who passed away 2-9-81, and they played Shake, Rattle & Roll. I think Casey wanted to point out that Haley was known for more than just Rock Around The Clock.

Stretching it a bit there is also the history of reggae segment on March 12, 1983 where Casey talked about Bob Marley, who had died just under two years earlier.

Bringing this up to the present, next weekend's AT40 (4/23/16) will have a salute to Prince, who is mentioned at the beginning of the show, and just before playing #1 Ryan will play a montage of Prince's nine pop chart #1's (according to R&R).

On the 9/1/1979 show there was a brief tribute to Minnie Riperton when they played "Lovin' You" in the Archives segment.

When Ryan filled in for Casey in 2003, he did one on Robert Palmer.
Earlier this year, Ryan did tributes and medleys for both David Bowie and Prince.
