Thirty years ago today Karen Carpenter, a young woman with (IMHO) an iconic voice tragically passed away. I want to share the following web site information: www.karencarpenter.com/

I remember one of The Carpenters' songs was later made popular on Sesame Street. That song was titled "Sing (Sing A Song)". I don't know if this song is featured on the show these days. Given the decline in the show's popularity, and the fact that newer seasons are now recycling previous seasons' episodes and fewer new episodes being produced, it wouldn't shock me if the show goes off the air by the 2020's.
I think that particular song was the focus of a $64,000 question on Who Wants To Be a Millionaire? on ABC in the early 2000's. My father played the song on his "Best of Carpenters" CD not too long before that Millionaire episode aired.

I wonder how many of the current divas can carry the melody and the songs as flawlessly and naturally as Karen Carpenter could, without resort to any grunting and gimmicky vocal twisting or screaming. And although a drummer she did it all without the help of the drum-filled power ballads…Thirty years on “Goodbye To (real) Love” songs.

Here's is the ABC News Brief from that day.
You know one thing about this. It wasn't even the lead story back then.
Did Casey ever mention her death on AT40?

Did Casey ever mention her death on AT40? Yes. Her death was mentioned on the 2/19/1983 show. He played "Sing" in memory since as Casey said that's what she did best.

It would be great if The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame decided to induct The Carpenters-They sold millions of records & they had an enormous fan base.
