I always did like 'Cutie pie', by One Way. 1 of my 2 fave soul sounds from the summer of '82; the other bein' the Gap band's original of 'Early in the mornin'.

Offering up a lost hit from 7/04/1987, this was in its peak position of #3 on the soul chart, and would hit #56 on the Hot 100 the following week. Still a Thrill - Jody WatleyThis is one of my favorites by her. Ha 80s fashion at it's best. Love Jody, but you could tell, hey, she was in love with herself.

From July 9, 1988, her first single is a lost 80s classic that just missed the Top 40. It peaked at #41, and hung on the charts for 13 weeks before it lost its punch and was TKO'd. Not to worry. One of those movies that stunk at the box office but spawned a big hit single: "Drivin' My Life Away". Am I the only one who actually saw Meat Loaf's 'other' motion picture back in 1980?

Knocked Out - Paula AbdulInteresting thing about Paula's run: this song just missed the top 40, after which she would release "The Way That You Love Me" in the coming months. That song didn't come close to reaching the top 40 the first time around, but she would soon release "Straight Up", which would send her on her way. "TWTYLM" would be re-released almost a year after it's initial release and become a top 5 hit. Funny what a little name recognition and momentum can do in the world of pop music...

Casey Kasem's American Top 40 - The 80's from August 6th, 1983, you know albums get their titles in a lot of different ways, usually they're named for the act itself, or for a song on the LP, or after the album's concept or theme, but the American debut album by the British group E.L.O. got its name all because no one answered the telephone, E.L.O. drummer Bev Bevan told us this story, back in 1972 the band then called Electric Light Orchestra had released their first album in England, and the American release was scheduled next, Bev said, "The album in England was just called Electric Light Orchestra, which makes sense because it's a debut album, and when it was going to be released in America on the United Artist record label, someone there said, check in London with this new group Electric Light Orchestra on what the title of the album is, and somebody called our office, and there was no reply on the telephone, so the American who made the call, wrote on a pad to their boss, regarding your query as to what The Electric Light Orchestra's first album title is, No Answer, and people figured, that was the name of the album, and it was released as, No Answer", and that's how E.L.O.'s debut album got its title according to Bev Bevan the drummer, eleven albums later, E.L.O. does all the naming of their LPs themselves, like the latest one called Secret Messages, it features their current hit at #24 in the countdown, it's Rock 'n' Roll Is King, here's E.L.O.

The lost 80s classic from August 25, 1984 was his only solo US Hot 100 hit. It was at its #85 peak position in the second of a 3 week stay. As with all his work it's a great song, and the youtube clip is of his typical cutting edge caliber as well. Hope you like this one trekkielo!Video! - Jeff Lynne
