What favorites of yours from the 1980s did you originally discover through the re-broadcasts of the American Top 40 80s shows? Finding new "treasures" is one of the main reasons I have enjoyed the broadcasts so much for the past several years!
Here are some of my favorite discoveries:
"This Little Girl" - Gary "U.S" Bonds, 1981 -- probably my absolute favorite of all! I can't believe I missed hearing this when it was current.
"Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime" - Korgis
"The Salt In My Tears" - Martin Briley
"That's Love" - Jim Capaldi
"Cold Love" - Donna Summer
"I'm Almost Ready" - Pure Prairie League

I didn't listen to AT 40 until July 1982, so some of the songs during the "Yacht Rock" era I knew nothing about until listening to the re-broadcasts. My favorites:
1) Steal the Night - Stevie Woods
2) Tryin' to Live My Life Without You - Bob Seger and the SBB
3) Him - Rupert Holmes
4) On The Radio - Donna Summer
5) Cool Love - Pablo Cruise
6) We're In This Love Together - Al Jerraeu
7) I'm Coming Out - Diana Ross
8) I Believe In You - Don Williams
9) Sequel - Harry Chapin

Didn't hear it through the Premierw show but a few years back when I was listening to an 84 show, I fell in love with "I Still Can't Get Over Loving You" by Ray Parker Jr. Very underrated song IMO.

I like that song too, but it always seemed to my ears that he cribbed the melody and overall sound from "Every Breath You Take" (and this was a year before the "Ghostbusters"/"I Want a New Drug" plagiarism controversy!).

Yeah, I like it too... but you've gotta wonder what he was thinking with some of the lyrics. "Don't you ever try to leave, 'cause it'll be the last thing you ever do!" Restraining order, please...

I like how in the song he seems to go from calm to crazed by the end.

He makes that pretty obvious by actually recycling lines from the Police hit. Maybe Ray wrote "I Still Can't Get Over Loving You" about "Jamie", subject of a hit for him a year later, who used to be his girl and he can't see her with anyone else; he warns her "watch what you say to me Jamie, watch who you're layin' with, Jamie, 'cause to me you're still my girl."

I think you might be onto something. I don't know if he meant it or not, but "Bad Boy" sounds like the sequel to "The Other Woman". Maybe he was like a latter day Harry Chapin Of course, if that was the case, he should have had a chance to do the theme for, "Ghostbusters II".

"Bad Boy" IS a sequel to "The Other Woman". Casey did a story about just that in the 2/5/83 show.

It's hard to believe that Ray just faded away for the most part after "Jamie". His biggest hit after that was with Glenn Mederios. And that wasn't big...but I liked that song. In fact, with the exception of "Ghostbusters", every Ray song is quality...particularly the Raydio stuff.

Ray was very lucky. Many people saw the similarities between of 'Ghostbusters' and 'I Want a New Drug', and 'I Still..." and 'Every Breath'. But I also felt that his 1985 mid-charting song "Girls are more Fun" at least ripped off the vibe of Cyndi Lauper's earlier 'Fun Girls' song. And even as late as 1990, he wrote, produced and was featured in a modest hit for Glenn Medieros called All I'm Missing is You."... If you listen to the chorus, it is an unmistakeable lift of Franki Valli's "Grease" chorus.

He probably convinced Glenn Medieros to steal the 1990 album title, "Glenn Medieros" from a 1987 album, "Glenn Medieros". Just looked at Glenn and said, "You Can't Change That".

I'm sorry, other than the very very start of Ghostbusters I never saw any similarity and I never ever saw one between I Just Can't Get Over Loving You and Every Breath You Take. Even if they have the same message, how many songs about cheating, sex, drug use, love, breaking up, etc are there that generally have the same message?

He also referenced his earlier hit "Jack & Jill" in "A Woman Needs Love".
I'm with Paul... I never heard a whole lot of similarity between "I Want A New Drug" and "Ghostbusters", chords/melody or whatever. I can think of many other pairs of songs that sound more alike than these two do, that never had a whiff of plagiarism about them.

Just So Lonely by Get Wet. Hasn't been played in a couple of years I don't think since it was only on the countdown for a few weeks.
