To all you country fans, this one's for you.
The New York City metro area has a new country radio station on its airwaves. According to Newsday, on January 21, 2013 WRXP-FM signed on as Nash 94.7 at appropriately 9:47AM. It is the first proper country station in the NYC market since 1996.
The first song played was the current No. 1 single by Randy Houser, "How Country Feels." It was followed by Alan Jackson's "Gone Country," which includes the line, "She says 'I'm a simple girl myself, grew up on Long Island.'"
The station is owned by Cumulus Media, and I am not sure if they stream yet. Congratulations, country fans. The largest radio market now plays country.

Wasn't there one there recently that just went country? Like within the last few years? I guess that one didn't last if I recall correctly.

There is Country 96.1 FM which is based out of Ronkonkoma, NY. But that station serves the Long Island radio market. I don't think its signal reaches the five boroughs.

New York City has had mixed results as far as country music stations are concerned-There was WHN,WKHK,& WYNY but they all fell by the wayside-Good luck to Nash 94.7.
