Yes the late 70s to the mid 80s are a real eye opener. How could it get to the point of having around 80 singles making the top 10 in a given year? Based on that, a top 15 record would seem to be equal to a top 10 hit from the other years.

One of the interesting things I see on this is that 1985 and 1986 were big years for Top 10 hits, yet the 1986 year end countdown (which had a healthy dose of 1985 songs on it) had a song that peaked at number 25 in the Top 95. I agree with Dukedeb...the late 70's era thru mid 80's are eye openers. I understand now the 1981 (and other) countdowns having non top 10 hits saturating the year end countdown!

That is an interesting table. It is cool to see how chart turn over speeds up and slows down.

Given the way the Top 100 of each year is tabulated some of these songs only claim to fame was that they were a top 10 song....as we well know some fail to hit the Top 100 for the year.......great data blackbowls68!!
