I was watching the news this morning & an announcer said that Billboard's Top 3 Singles Of 2012 were by newcomers: 1)."Somebody That I Used To Know"-Gotye 2)."Call Me Maybe"-Carly Rae Jepsen 3)."We Are Young"-Fun It was also mentioned that Adele's "21" was the top album for the second year in a row-The only other album to achieve that distinction was Michael Jackson's "Thriller".

Hard to tell, since BB published multiple LP charts (separate for mono and stereo) from 1959-1963. So I'm not sure if their year-end charts combined both, or if not, which one they now use for historical data.
