Very saddened to hear of the passing of Dave Brubeck. I had the chance to meet him and his wife when they attended the OMEA conference in Cleveland back in 2006. I believe it was the BGSU Collegiate Chorale who was premiering some of his new music. Yes, he was still composing in his eighties! Thank you Dave for the great music and for making 5/4 time seem so cool!
Oh, Dave and his quartet hit the 40! His most well-known piece "Take Five", while recorded in 1959, hit #25 in 1961!
Folks, I think this may be fun topic to expand. How many top 40 hits can you think of that used unusual meter like 5/4?
I will start with the obvious: "Living in the Past" by Jethro Tull.

Not sure if "Living In The Past" was in 5-4 time. If so, though, it's a great addition to a short list! (Rob Durkee, a/k/a Rockin' Robin)
