Hello:
Does anyone out there collect classic at40 shows and store them on MP3 CD/DVD? It is a great way to collect shows without having a ton of LP's/Cd's around.
Thanks

I record shows in various ways. AT40 the 80s, I get off-air so that goes on cassette. The shows on XM, usually I record onto my Portable media recorder as a .wav file and then transfer to the pc after editing it into 3 sections, then burn to cd. And sometimes I record to VHS. But I still have a backlog of VHS tapes and .wav files.

Yes. I record all my shows as wav files, burn them onto CD, and then convert them to mp3 and delete the original wav files to save space. I figure I'm safe as long as I have every one of them in at least 2 formats.

I started recording AT40: the 70s off the net when I discovered nenad's site in January. Though I really would rather have the old LPs, I can't afford them...not at the prices some folks are asking.

I agree, it's great if you do this at a reasonable encoding quality of 192k or better. I switched completely to digital-format for my AT40 collection - but I don't burn it. I just keep the whole collection on two identical external hard drives. This gives me easy access to any show and if one drive fails, I'll have a backup. It took a long time to convert all my LPs and tapes. But it's worth it, because I can now put them on my mp3 player and listen to them wherever I want. Compared to analog media, recording current broadcasts digitally it so much easier: I get AT40 the80s/the70s via satellite in TS/mp2 format, this plays on my mp3 player, so there's no need to convert anything, I just remove the news and ads with the mp3directcut freeware in a few seconds. With AOL-XM I record directly to mp3 on the computer and keep each show in one large file. There's no FM or AM AT40 station here, if there was one, I'd connect an mp3-recording player like the Iriver to the radio and just record the whole show in one file.

Thanks for the recommendation of the freeware---you have just saved me at least 2 hours per week in editing--this program is exponentially faster than the one I currently use! THANKS, THANKS, THANKS!!! ;D

I started collecting the AT40 shows in earnest back in 1993-1994. Bought some vinyl when the prices were really low,and had people recording shows to cassette for me. Then in the later 90's I started transferring as many of the shows to CD-R as I could and sold all the vinyl on Ebay--made a pretty penny. Got hooked up with several die hard collectors and traded shows all the time. To date,I have a huge collection of shows spanning mainly from 1970 through 1990 on CD-R. Still have a ton of my shows on tape too,but I've long since transferred those to CD. I still prefer the shows on CD-R as opposed to MP3. And while I appreciate hearing the shows on XM,its still nice to own the originals.

I'm recording from the radio through my audio interface to Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio. Lately I've decided to save one version as a .wav in case I need to reference the songs (I'm a professional musician). But I also save to MP3 so I can listen on my portable. Lately I've been dividing the MP3s up into hours 3 files for the 70s and 4 for the 80s. I edit out all the commercials. Getting really fast at it.
I posted this elsewhere, but I need the first hour of the Disco show they played 2 weeks ago (7/5/08), and the first 2 hours of the 70s show from last week (7/12/08). I screwed up and deleted that part. I need songs 40 - 14.
I would be willing to pay and/or mail someone a USB thumb drive to put them on. Thanks!

Hey guys (and gals). I am totally hooked up with my first hour of the Disco show, as well as a clean copy of the 7/12/76 show. Thanks to all forum members for the support! What a great community! Hope I can give back as well.

I just simply record using Soundtap - save as Mp3 file (instead of the larger .wav file) - transfer the recording to an external hard drive, in case my regular hard drive crashes.
I like recording terrestrial stations too, but the ads kind of ruin the show.
Someone mentioned nenad - great site to find all of the shows - unfortunately, the stations and times change constantly - and then you've got Xmas programming to deal with this time of year.

What's the official policy toward posting links to mp3s of these shows on this board?

What's the official policy toward posting links to mp3s of these shows on this board? I just know I wouldn't do it as posting those links could leave you and any site used for that purpose open to legal action by the copyright holder of the shows in question.
