On the 80s show Casey mentioned Elt's Game was the only song to push into the countdown, at #40. Was there ever a non frozen week with no new top 40 songs?
Was there ever a one debut week where that song peaked lower than the #39 high mark of Don't You Wanna Play?

The ultimate in minimum debuts was reached late in the Shadoe era, on 2/19/94, when nothing debuted or dropped off. That was matched by Casey's Top 40 on 9/24/94.
There are also two Ryan Seacrest AT40s with no debuts: 1/29/05 and 9/1/12 (just a few weeks ago.)

Red Sovine's TEDDY BEAR was the only debut, at #40, and it fell off the next week

The last original AT40 show, from January 28, 1995, had only one "debut," Zhane's "Shame" at #40. And that was a re-entry.

The June 9, 1973 show had no new songs, only two re-entries: "Out of the Question" by Gilbert O'Sullivan at #33, and "Daisy a Day" by Jud Strunk at #27.
Of course, we know this chart was wrong, but that's the way it went on the show.

Actually, the first AT40 broadcast with no debuts and no songs dropping out was, I believe, April 17, 1993. Not even a re-entry either. Shadoe mentioned this as "an AT40 first", and mentioned about the same 40 songs juggling around, and closed his statement with "tell all your friends!"

That week was not frozen--the week ending Jan. 2, 1988 would have been the frozen week that year. Of course it's obvious from the chart listings, since that was the week of the '87 Year End Top 100. And in the 80's, Mr. woolebull is correct--1/9/88 with "Just Like Heaven" is the only one-debut week that had a song peak at #40 and drop out the following week. The other one-debut week during the 80's besides 9/20/80 and 1/9/88 was 10/19/85--and it's lone debut was Mr. Mister's "Broken Wings"...suffice to say that song made it higher than #40.

When AT40 was using the weird chart from late 2000-2001, both 1/20/01 and 5/12/01 had no debuts (the latter coming off of a week with six debuts and two reentries).

If you think about it, it's probably somewhat bizarre that in the 940 some odd weeks from 1970 to 1988, there was not a single week in which there were zero debuts...seems like it should've happened once or twice.

I'm with you on that. Especially those late '82/ 'early '83 charts where the biggest droppers (albeit within the Top 40) were one notch.
