I also give the Don Bowman show low marks. When he says that
Chet Atkins was the first name he recognized thus far in the
show, he'd already played songs by The Carpenters and Carly
Simon. Seriously, he'd never heard of either of those? BS!
When promoting the upcoming "One Hit Wonders" show, he actually
pronounced the word "Huge" as "Hooj!" I have never heard that
in my life, before or since. (Also, although Casey said the
words "Disappearing Acts" during every promo for that show, for
weeks in advance of its broadcast, Bowman never says that phrase.
I mean, it is the name of the show!!!)
He takes a massive dump on Alice Cooper - which at least goes to
show how the "mainstream" world viewed him at the time. Bless
Casey for always giving props to Mr. Cooper.
Not really his fault, as he was clearly reading a script, but he
rarely said if a song had moved up, or down from the previous week.
And never says the word "notch!"
He tells an amusing story about how Paul Simon wrote "Kodachrome"
with the words "Going Home" as the title, but felt that you could
not write a song called "Going Home." Three weeks later the Osmonds
would debut on the Top 40 with...
He badly stumbles while trying to say "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,"
especially at the outro. Surprised they didn't let him give it another
try. Embarrassing!
He doesn't make a prediction about next week's number one, or even
acknowledge the pick from the previous week.
His sibilant "SSSsss" got annoying real quick!
