^ It was actually for the American track athlete Tyson Gay. He had just qualified for the 100 meter sprint at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and a Christian website run by the American Family Association had the word 'gay' filtered throughout its website. Their news story included this incredible line: "It means a lot to me," the 25-year-old Homosexual said. "I'm glad my body could do it, because now I know I have it in me." link

Another name I've noticed being censored by the profanity filter is the last name of the singer who charted with the songs "Finally" and "Keep On Walkin'" in the early '90s.

I foresaw this issue when posting about one of Casey's cartoon roles. Changing one letter can't be that much of a problem.

I remember a radio station playing the Rita Coolidge song "All Time High" (only reached #36 on the AT40 charts in 1983, but was #1 on the AC charts for four weeks, go figure), and when the announcer passed along a bit of trivia about it being in the movie "Octogirl thingy" the last two syllables were bleeped out! This was on WMRI 860 AM, Marion, Indiana (which unfortunately is another ESPN affiliate now).

I think the language filter is fantastic and solves a lot of problems. Now, if the people behind it can next solve world hunger, disease, and nuclear proliferation, that would be great. Thanks.

I'm assuming the band that charted with the single "When Your Heart Is Weak" in the mid-'80s gets through.

Yes, the days of "thingy Robin", "Joe thingyer", and "Bruce thingyburn" are in the past (so someone did come to their senses there... can we do the same for the rest of the naughty bits?).

For the singer of "Finally", one possible solution (other than putting spaces between the letters) would be to write her last name as "Penniston", which I actually thought it was at first. For the record, when I found that it had one "n", I did not notice what the first five letters of her name spelled - until someone on the boards pointed that out. Kind of a surprise, what with a gutter mind I had, especially back then! (My co-workers at the pizza joint can surely vouch for that!)
