Due to a certain four-letter combination being banned from this board, I was unable to properly type the name of John Sebastian's old group in another thread. Look how it came out:

I know it's late and all but I am wracking my brain trying to figure out what that word means. I swear to God. I have never heard it before. I had to go to one of my old posts and type it in just to see for myself that the filter would change it. THis one needs an explanation!!

I don't understand what the big problem with that word is myself. I even heard it used on, of all places, "The Brady Bunch" many years ago.

Dick Clark used to be filtered as Richard Clark on here so at least it's been modified some.

Another artist whose name we can't type is "Donald F a g e n". His name becomes "Donald f*gen".

Not AT40 related, but there was another message board where I contributed years ago. A post containing an excerpt from a legitimate science article converted "homo erectus" to "homosexual erectus".  |

Seriously, the PC police are at it again! Just because a word that means something gross doesn't mean it should be filtered unless the word appears by itself (with no surrounding letters). Same for one of the singers from Steely Dan. It's only offensive if it stands out by itself but not if it's surrounded by letters.
Oddly enough, the GSN message boards filters "Dyke" whenever I reference Charlie Van Dyke on that message board. Yet they don't censor "Dick" because of references to the host of $25,000 Pyramid - a show that GSN airs regularly or at times.

I think there was also an athlete whose last name was "Gay", and some news website filtered his last name so that articles about him had his last name as "Homosexual". |
