I meant to post this yesterday (for obvious reasons), but since "Leap Day" shows have been a real rarity for AT40, a few fun trivia questions for everyone--can anyone name for AT40 on February 29th:
-The only songs ever to debut on the Top 40? -The only songs ever to drop from the Top 40? -The only #1 song(s)? -The only LDD songs played? -Who the show host(s) were?

I think the only time during AT40's run that AT40 would air on Leap Day was in 1992 (exactly two decades ago!). After doing a research on this site, here is what I discovered: - Shadoe Stevens was the host that day (we all knew this was coming, given the year).
- The only LDD played that day was Tiffany's "Could've Been".
- Shanice's "I Love Your Smile" was #1 that week.
- Other former #1's that week were Michael Jackson's "Remember The Time", and "All 4 Love" by Color Me Badd.
- Future #1's that week were "Save The Best For Last" by Vanessa Williams, and I don't know of any other future #1's that charted that week.
- Stacy Earl's name was written as Stacy East.
- Roxette had the Sneak Peek that week with "Church Of Your Heart"
- 1970 was the feature year in the "Flashback" segment.
AT40 will not air on a leap day again until 2020, and if Ryan Seacrest keeps the show going at the pace it's going, who knows what goodies may be in store for us then.

You got it. Leap Day occurs on a Saturday only once every 28 years, so 1992 would indeed have been the only possible time (its last occurrence before that being 1964).
Those were indeed the only future and former #1s in the 40 that week, though a glance at the week before reveals that "Black or White" was a dropper on 2/29.
Incidentally...this was obviously in the Shadoe Stevens era, but the very next week had Jack Wagner guest-hosting.

OK, so you guys were both correct...the only Leap Day show was indeed the show 20 years ago this past week - the February 29, 1992 show - which was of course hosted by Shadoe Stevens. And Mike is correct that the last time before '92 that Feb. 29th fell on a Saturday and thus would have been a Billboard chart date, was in 1964 (I believe this would have been the ONLY other Feb. 29th chart date since the time before that would've been in 1936). As for the 2/29/92 AT40 show, here are the answers: Debut songs on AT40 (there were 4): "Romeo and Juliet" Stacey Earl "Tears In Heaven" Eric Clapton "Everything Changes" Kathy Troccoli "Make It Happen" Mariah Carey Droppers: "Live For Loving You" Gloria Estefan "Broken Arrow" Rod Stewart "Move Any Mountain" The Shamen "Black Or White" Michael Jackson #1 Song: "I Love Your Smile" Shanice LDD: "Could've Been" Tiffany FYI, for anyone interested, the Hot 100 yielded an entirely different set of answers: Debuts (there were 3): "Is It Good To You" Heavy D and the Boyz "We Got a Love Thang" Ce Ce thingyton (have to admit I didn't know she had any other hits besides "Finally") "Again Tonight" John Mellencamp Droppers: "There Will Never Be Another Tonight" Bryan Adams "No Son Of Mine" Genesis "Set Adrift On Memory Bliss" P.M. Dawn #1 Song: "To Be With You" Mr. Big

LOL 'Ce Ce Thingyton'. Any chance the admins could adjust the word filter to change a name like that to 'Steely Danton' instead? Might as well have some fun with it {shrug}
It even be applicable for one particular member of that same group who hit with "I.G.Y."...

Footnote to that: Prior to 1962 Billboard's issue date didn't match the chart date (and weren't always Saturday), so while there was no chart dated 2/29/60, there was an issue with that date (featuring chart date 3/6/60). And four years earlier, we had chart date 2/29/56 (in the 3/10/56 issue).

Very interesting--so Billboard didn't start consistently using Saturdays as the chart dates until 1962? Wonder how they decided on the dates before that?
BTW, thanks to msgator, OldSchoolAT40Fan and Mike for some additional fun facts regarding the 2/29/92 show...and man, somebody does need to fix that naughty word filter--no reason that Ce Ce "Thingyton" and Donald "F*gen" can't be discussed by name in this forum. Ce Ce's is one of the funnier ones--surprised she didn't do something like add and extra n to her name at some point.

Billboard used Saturday for its chart date until late April 1957 when they switched to using Monday and then switched back to Saturday at the beginning of 1962.

I think Top 40 acts Joe Cocker, Bruce Cockburn, and Cock Robin also suffered from automatic forum censorship at one time, but apparently no longer.

On my local classic-rock station's website, the last name of the guy who sang "You Are So Beautiful" is censored, while on this website it has been untouched. Strange, just strange!
