No it's not a surprise at all. It didn't even make the top ten on the soul charts nor the Billboard Hot 100, it bubbled under at #101. "Somewhere In My Lifetime" also missed the top ten soul and it was produced by Barry Manilow.

Gloria Gaynor's follow-up to the #1 "I Will Survive " "Anybody Wanna Party" didn't even make the Hot 100. For anyone who lived in Hampton Roads in 1979, it was very heavily played on Z104. At the time I subscribed to Billboard and looked for it on the Hot 100 and couldn't believe it never charted :-(

"You know how to love me" was a great song but it was released at a time of pop radio seemed to be resisting disco sounding songs. I think pop stations might have thought it too "disco sounding" and as for R&B radio you had alot of competition at the time with Michaels off the wall LP, Prince with I wanna be your lover, Shalamar second time, dont let go and working my way back to you, Issac Hayes and Spinners respectively. I remember the spring/summer of '81 (Boston area) hearing "Heartbeat" by Taana Gardner, but it never sniffed the Hot 100. Also another great song was "Competition" by Tom Dickie and the Desires (81/82?). Boston radio played it but nationally it was a dud.
