Remember hearing it a few years ago, it was i think an early 70's show, its some song where at the end someones son does of a drug od?? aNYONE know what iam talking about?

^ Technically it didn't hit the 40 until January 1972. It's #35 on 1/29/72, if that show happens to come up next weekend.

This was also sampled quite heavily in a song from 1996 which hit #101 called "Mr. Kirk" which includes the morbid vocal sample ("Mr Kirk? Your son is dead. He died of an overdose.")

Once You Understand! One of the greatest bad records ever made! Aah, they just don't make 'em like that anymore. I'm sure many a 6th grade teacher loved it, though. I was warned about the evil drug messages in songs like Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds, Puff the Magic Dragon, and The Candy Man!

"DOA" by Bloodrock is the definitive "Don't Do Drugs Kids" tune!!! well the victim was thru a plane accident so not sure if you mean the songwriter was on drugs when he wrote it? it is a grim tune, probably the most "dark" tune ever in the Casey era of the top 40
