I guess I still don't understand why WHTZ would air the year end specials with Ryan but NOT with Casey. Did they simply not like Casey Kasem? Casey Kasem was and still is a nationally known personality who set the standard for all countdowns. It makes no sense! Maybe they weren't too fond of having an elderly man like Casey counting down the top hits of the year to a young audience. I said maybe. My guess is that you're absolutely right. Though I would disagree with the term "elderly" as it makes Casey sound like he's 110. But I know what you meant, and I agree. As for stations "burying" the shows...the writer makes the assumption that "casual" listeners love these shows, which I think many PDs feel (incorrectly or not) that they do not. So they use them as filler. Or the stations are "O&O"'s of the network that distributes the show, and are therefore mandated to run them. Don't get me wrong...I think these shows are gems. But we may be the minority, albeit a vocal one. Be happy the shows are replayed at all. I know I am.

I guess I just look at it as they felt he didn't "connect" with their audience anymore.

A side note to this discussion is when Casey's Top 40 aired on Z100 in 1989, CT40 year end special was aired from 1989 to 1993. Z100 went through some changes in formats during 94 and 95 but still played the hits and went alternative. Then in nov 94 CT40 was cancelled by Z100. During those 2 years 94 and 95, Z100 aired a countdown called The Hit List,a top 30 countdown show featuring Elvis Duran and a female jock who's husband Steve Kingston was the PD on Z100 at the time and then moved over to the old K-Rock to be PD. In 1995 Z100 played their top 100 of the year ONCE starting with #1 and going to #100. They called it the upside down countdown. Then in 1996 Z100 began doing their top 100 countdown 6 or 7 times during Christmas and New Years with hosts Elvis and Elliot...and the rest is history.

The Hitlist Live was originally "Adam Curry's Top 30 hitlist" Elvis took it over when Adam left an I suspect production was done in house @z100. Elvis also took over duties at "Hitline USA" also (Brenda Ross I believe continued with him from KIIS fm). Patty Steele teamed up w/ Elvis, and after Kingston left, Steele left and Elliott Segal took over co-hosting, an the show struggled on for a few more years an that was it.
