Frustrated – what made Kenny Loggins so frustrated, I wonder? Frustrated – has 1988 been taken out of the rotation? Brian I doubt it. Remember two years ago - the first 1988 show from that year was the last weekend in February. I have a feeling that they're going to do 1988 the weekend after next. I wonder if they're going to do 1983 the last weekend in February then. If not, then that'll be two years in a row that they waited until March to air a 1983 show. Maybe they're doing that so they won't have to play that awful "Clapping Song" by Pia Zadora, which was on the chart for the last three weekends of February, 1983.

"The Clapping Song". Now that one, I don't remember. Am I lucky I don't?
And, briguy, they just aired the Top 100 of 1987, which will ultimately "count" against 1988 for a little while. So, it's no surprise we have yet to have an '88 show in 2013.
I do think we get one the week after next. I predicted 2/20/88 for the weekend of 2/16 in the next week's predictions thread.

Well, if we're to hear George and Michael (but NOT George Michael's "Faith"), then by God, we'll have to go with Feb. 20. Because if not, they too get the shaft. And baloney that it counts against 1988. To me, it counts against 1987, since all the songs were from the 1987 chart period. So if there's a countdown to miss until (at least) March, it'd be that year. Brian

Yeah, the Top 100 of '87 counts against 1987, not 1988. Last year they aired 1/14/84 right after the Top 100 of '83.

Yeah, the Top 100 of '87 counts against 1987, not 1988. Last year they aired 1/14/84 right after the Top 100 of '83. Well, my point - or lack thereof - was that a fair amount of the songs in the Top 100 of 1987 were on the chart in November/December of 1987, regardless of whether or not they were played on the last countdown we heard of 1987 last year. But I'm not trying to be argumentative. I'm sure there is no hard-and-fast rule in this regard.

Yeah, the Top 100 of '87 counts against 1987, not 1988. Last year they aired 1/14/84 right after the Top 100 of '83. Similarly, they aired 1/18/86 two weeks after the top 100 of 1985 two years ago. Some of the same songs on both shows, but not many since the survey period for the 85 top 100 ended six weeks prior...

I hate this game. If anyone's show is preempted for it, I am sorry. I absolutely HATE it!

I think they're just waiting to air a show from 1988 that they haven't aired yet. And until another year is aired twice before 1988 so far in 2013, then it's not accurate to say it's been shafted.

"The Clapping Song". Now that one, I don't remember. Am I lucky I don't? I'd say so. Pia Zadora's about as talented a singer as she is an actress. ;D She's no Shirley Ellis! (Shirley-Shirley-bo-Birley "Name Game" Ellis did the original "Clapping Song" as a follow-up to her big hit in 65. "The line broke, the monkey got choked, and they all went to heaven in a little rowboat. Clap, clap...")

She sounds like a high school cheerleader leading the crowd at a pep rally. Maybe they were trying to cash in on Toni Basil's "Mickey"? Regardless of one's opinion of "The Clapping Song", I don't think Premiere is going to purposefully avoid shows from February 1983 so as not to play it; in 2008 they played a countdown that included it.

Not sure what all the b!tching and moaning is about over 1988 shows. It makes sense that they would wait until February, since the only two "airable" Jan. '88 shows have both been played (1/23/88 has been played twice), and there are two Feb. '88 shows that haven't been aired yet. PRN aired four 1988 shows in both 2011 and 2012, and I see no reason they won't do the same this year.

I guess there was no final hour of AT 40 on WQSR. I record that station via dar.fm and they didn't play it in 8 PM PT hour. If anyone has the last hour and is willing to upload it for me, thanks a bunch. I don't know if I have anything you want in exchange.

I was going to say that the next show was going to be 2/13/1988 until I saw Pete's clue. Was there a switch I don't know about? I'm going to bed and then I'm going to work (yes, I'm working the day after the Super Bowl and I'll like it.)

Pete, you gave us a hint for the 70s show next week... are you going to give us a hint for the 80s show? This might narrow it down to what show it will be next week. Ask and ye shall receive... Next week's 80s program from Premiere included a country artist, a commercial artist, and a frustrated artist. In the February 13, 1988 program, Casey told a story about Tiffany (as a country singer), Richard Marx (as a commercial jingle artist), and Bruce Springsteen's frustrating chart record. Maybe I should've gone with my original clue, "In this show, Casey sings!"

Guess I was really stumped for sure!
I'll be looking forward to hearing and recording next weekend's retro broadcast for sure!
