Predictions for next week's show...I'm right with ponderousman again this week...
1st guess: 2/9/80 2nd guess: 2/13/88
I think we get an '88 show either next weekend or the week after. If it is the week after, will it be 2/13/88 or 2/20/88? If we don't get 1980 next weekend, it will probably be March before we get our first '80 show of the year.

So Casey Kasem still owns AT40 w/Shadoe Stevens? Are you sure you aren't thinking they just didn't spend the money to remaster the Shadoe shows for rebroadcast? That's what I'm thinking. The idea that you would buy the show from 1970-1988, and then the current one makes no sense at all. No, Casey apparently doesn't either. It is another company, probably one who bought out ABC. I could have sworn reading in these boards that they're all Premiere(/Seacrest?) property. I've left a message with Shannon, so hopefully he can clear this up.

Contrary to claims or beliefs, Clear Channel owns the rights to all American Top 40 shows regardless of host, guest host or time period. Shows hosted by anyone other than Casey (Charlie Van Dyke, Bob Eubanks, Shadoe Stevens, etc.) are not considered marketable nor listener-worthy to the general public. Those are not my words but those from up the decision tree. CC does everything that it can to protect the hosts which they believe are synonymous to AT40 and that would be Casey and Ryan. I know where the masters are to all guest hosted shows and all Shadoe shows. They are clearly and unmistakably in the possession of CC. It's unfortunate Shadoe is treated as the red-headed stepchild because those shows are equally enjoyable to listen to. Lastly, for collectors...I'd recommend snagging up copies of CT40 as they will probably be highly collectible on the horizon. They don't have to pick up anything. They own it. That is what I mean. Premiere does not own Shadoe's AT40 shows. I honestly don't know about CT40, but I know for sure they do not own Shadoe's.

Premiere does not own Shadoe's AT40 shows. I honestly don't know about CT40, but I know for sure they do not own Shadoe's. That truly makes no sense. How would they own only part when the rights to the show in full reverted back to Casey Kasem in 1998 and they, well AMFM, purchased it from him? Correct in that Premiere does not own Shadoe's shows, nor do they own Casey's shows. American Top 40, past, present and future, is owned by Clear Channel.

I should clarify, that is based on what I know from older contracts. It could be that some other entity has acquired the rights for the 1998-2005 time period but I think Clear Channel would be pretty surprised to hear that news.

Premiere is the distribution arm of CC. So when I say Premiere, I'm referring to CC

Clearly Clear Channel's decision to vault the other hosted AT40 shows indicates how much they really care about this American Institution i.e. the AT40 Franchise. To consider the non Casey hosted shows as "not marketable or even listener-worthy" boggles my mind to say the least.....I'll do anything to hear those shows today.

Is there a 90's "CT/AT" mesh up coming to radio, i.e. "CT 40" through 2-98 and "AT 40" through the rest of the decade? Or just CT 40 shows? Or am I just reading it wrong...

Well that explains why you can openly sell Shadoe shows on eBay. You can also sell/buy Casey's Top 40 on ebay. Clear Channel doesn't have a problem with that, unlike Casey's American Top 40.

Shannon...I sent you an email off board...please read. Thanks.
In the past, I thought CT40 shows, sold by others besides Shannon, removed from ebay. Is that no longer the case?

Shannon...I sent you an email off board...please read. Thanks. In the past, I thought CT40 shows, sold by others besides Shannon, removed from ebay. Is that no longer the case? I thought so as well. However, yesterday there was a CT show not done by Charis that was in its last day of auction. Speaking of allowing Shadoe shows to be sold, essentially relegating him to guest host status, if I had a copy of AT 40 from, say, 9-2-78, would I be able to sell it because Casey is not the narrator that week, or does it only apply to Shadoe shows?

I thought so as well. However, yesterday there was a CT show not done by Charis that was in its last day of auction. Shot in the dark answer, but I'm thinking that it matters less because it's not done by Charis - the idea being, it's not done by them, so therefore, you take what you get, whether it's of just as good quality...or not.
