Interesting curveball pick with "Small Town Boy" -- a good song from the group led by Jimmy Sommerville, who would reach the top 40 as lead singer for the Communards a couple years later. And we will never hear them on the show since their one and only week in the Top 40 with "Don't Leave Me This Way" was played on a guest-hosted show (3/7/1987). (Unless it's ever picked as an extra, which likely wouldn't happen until at least next year.)

"Desperado" was an extra on the August 19th, 1980 show. Actually, that would be July 19, 1980. Thank you both. I'll be listening to that show later this year; I'm doing a 1980 marathon (along with Casey's Top 40 from 1992).

Prediction for next show:
2/11/84
With 4/14/84 not having aired in 10 years this show should set that one up perfectly, and also it's probably too soon for any show dated February 14.

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess - 2/11/84 2nd Guess - 2/12/83
1984 seems to be the obvious choice for next weekend...

Extras for February 2, 1985: *Hour #1: Bronski Beat’s Small Town Boy *Hour #2: Commodores’ Nightshift *Hour #3: Autograph’s Turn Up The Radio *Hour #4: Duran Duran’s Save A Prayer Interesting curveball pick with "Small Town Boy" -- a good song from the group led by Jimmy Sommerville, who would reach the top 40 as lead singer for the Communards a couple years later. [...] Jimmy Sommerville became well-known not only as a singer of Bronski Beat, but also as a singer of the band "The Communards". And especially two songs of the Communards are still real mood-setters at several parties: Don´t Leave Me This Way (#3 dance on 11/8/86 and #40 pop on 3/7/87) und Never Can Say Goodbye (#3 dance on 2/13/88 and #51 pop on 2/20/88)

^I remember both songs, especially "Don't Leave Me This Way". I remember playing that song on the jukebox every time I went to the Game Room Arcade, where I went just about every Saturday back in the spring/summer of 1987. I ended up buying the 45 later on that summer.
I only heard their version of "Never Can Say Goodbye" once, on a show called Power Line. Both were great songs!

I remember "Never Can Say Goodbye" being played on MTV around the spring of 1988 -- thought it was a good late 80's remake of that song.

On this week's show from 1/30/88,Casey listed a few top forty hits that were later used as themes for TV shows-He mentioned "Primrose Lane" from "The Smith Family"-"Rock Around The Clock" from "Happy Days","My Life" from "Bosom Buddies" & "Runaway" from "Crime Story"-However,Casey left out a song that eventually became a much requested Long Distance Dedication-That was "Thank You For Being A Friend" which was used as the theme from "The Golden Girls". Maybe because the TV theme was a different version of the song than what hit the top 40.

^ While Andrew Gold wrote the song, Cynthia Fee's cover was used as the theme for "The Golden Girls", which debuted in 1985. Andrew's own version hit AT40 in 1978.

Maybe because the TV theme was a different version of the song than what hit the top 40. The same is true for "Bosom Buddies" and "My Life"; for the show, it was sung by Gary Bennett. I remember this from the summer of '85, when the Buds first came on in syndication.

Although I´m pretty sure the extras will probably not be changed - here´s a possible alternative for the 2/11/84-show:
Bette Midler - Beast Of Burden Billy Idol - Rebel Yell The Rolling Stones - She Was Hot Tina Turner - Let´s Stay Together
