On the 1-30-88 show, Casey answered a question about slowest climbing LP's to #1 on the Billboard Album chart. However , I believe that record could have broken with 3 albums that come to mind that were popular in 1988/1989-Guns n' Roses "Appetite For Destruction" , Def Leppard's " Hysteria ", and Paula Abdul's "Forever Your Girl". Did any of these 3 albums break Fleetwood Mac's record ? "Forever Your Girl" did; it hit #1 on October 7, 1989, its 64th week on the Billboard album chart. "Hysteria" hit #1 in its 49th week and "Appetite For Destruction" in its 50th.

On this week's show from 1/30/88,Casey listed a few top forty hits that were later used as themes for TV shows-He mentioned "Primrose Lane" from "The Smith Family"-"Rock Around The Clock" from "Happy Days","My Life" from "Bosom Buddies" & "Runaway" from "Crime Story"-However,Casey left out a song that eventually became a much requested Long Distance Dedication-That was "Thank You For Being A Friend" which was used as the theme from "The Golden Girls".

Predictions for the optional extras:Why Can’t I Be You Could you hum a few bars of that one? (No, seriously, I'm assuming that you mean "Why Can't I HAVE You" by the Cars).

My predictions for the Extras: "High On You" - Survivor "Nightshift" - Bryan Adams "Obsession" - Animotion "Save A Prayer" - Duran Duran The Commodores sang "Night Shift", not Bryan Adams. If you meant to predict a Bryan Adams song, you probably meant either "Run to You" or "Somebody".

"Run To You" was already on the chart that date so it couldn't be that one.
I'll guess:
"Save A Prayer" (the hotshot debut) "Keeping The Faith" (would debut the following week) "High On You" (also debuting the following week)
"Somebody" (second highest Hot 100 debut)

I was indeed thinking of "Somebody", which I had considered as an extra, but then changed my mind.

This show also contains a rarity -- one of the few LDD's ever to feature a song that never reached the Top 40, and in this case it was because that song was never released as a single. It is however, one of the most famous album cuts in rock history. I'm thinking "Desperado" was used at least one other time as an LDD request, but I can't remember on which show it would have been.

Trying to rack my brain, but it might have been a 1980 show or around that time. It might have been a countdown extra, because I remember Casey telling the story of an armed man who demanded to speak to the Eagles when going to their record company, or something like that. I'm listening to the 1980 shows in order this year, so I'll let you know if I hear it. But I remember hearing that story around 2-3 years ago, but the date of the show escapes me. Might have to consult Pete's books, but they're in storage right now. ETA: "Smalltown Boy" - good song, and great pick as an extra. I remember being re-aquainted with it in 2009 when I heard it on an internet station named KICK Radio. They played some real forgotten hits on there. Good stuff.

"Desperado" was an extra on the August 19th, 1980 show. It was also used as a LDD again in 1985 on June 22nd.

"Desperado" was an extra on the August 19th, 1980 show. Actually, that would be July 19, 1980.
