Interesting choice, and leaves it wide open as to what gets played next week. It's looking like the last 1982 'A' show will end up being 10/30/82. More than likely it will now be either 12/19/87, 12/26/87 or 12/21/85-- maybe 1987 with a 1982 'B' show? It airing the weekend before Christmas I would think it would be a standalone with a Christmas themed alternate option for those stations playing only Holiday music? The show that hasn't aired in the longest time is 12/26/87 so that would be my guess.
Also, is there a chance "Do They Know It's Christmas" might be an optional extra on the 1984 show? It seems appropriate given the season.
I'd like to see it be an extra, since 12/22/1984 won't be played this year but that was the week it entered the Hot 100. But I have a feeling it would more likely be an extra for that show instead of the selected 12/15 show. Maybe 12/22 gets played next year.

Well, the AT40 from 33 years ago today on WWIS ended 7 minutes early. A change from ending almost 15 minutes late the last couple of weeks....

I was just curious to know if any other AT40 stations end the 4-hour broadcasts well before the top of the final hour.

What a shock! Listening to WJER, only to be interrupted by a local game!

Is WCRZ FM airing some christmas songs, and not AT40 80s? Maybe Im hearing christmas songs It's playing the regular 1980s AT40. They're playing Christmas music otherwise, and a few such songs popped up as filler during breaks in the countdown. Currently they're almost done, at "Hip To Be Square" at #3, accompanied by a Long Distance Dedication that could have been to me at that time and for several years after.

While looking at the Hot 100 dated December 22, 1984, I noticed Wham’s “Careless Whisper” debuted on the chart at #37. However, instead of receiving “NEW” status, it was tagged as “RE-ENTRY.” My copy of Whitburn’s Top Pop singles makes no mention of a previous Hot 100 chart appearance for that song. Anyone know the story behind this? Was it a Billboard error? My apologies if an explanation was previously posted.
Speaking of an error, there’s a discrepancy on the 12/15/84 chart between Billboard’s Hot 100 and AT40 – the #22 and #23 songs are reversed. Billboard has "Hello Again" by The Cars At #22 and, at #23, Chicago's "You're The Inspiration." And in the countdown, the songs are in opposite positions.

Did I hear things correctly? Didn't both of the first two LDDs on 12/6/86 come from Springfield, TN?

WAYYYYYY back in the day...1977, to be exact, when the show was still just 3 hours long, KLEU 850 AM in Waterloo, Iowa carried AT40 at noon on Saturdays and was known to excise a LOT of the ads from the show, shrinking a 3 hour broadcast down to 2:45, or even shorter. I remember one Saturday when they squeezed it down to 2 and a half hours. KLEU's PD must've considered AT40 a necessary nuisance and wanted to get it overwith ASAP, or something. Rick in South Omaha
