I wonder if he gets a tribute as one of the optional extras. If not next week maybe the week after. Hoping for "I Wanna Go Back".
R.I.P. Eddie Money

Boy that HSB extra was the worst version I have ever heard, definitely not the hit. It sounded two beats to slow. I wonder where they found that version.

I might be wrong, but I'm thinking that it might be the version used for the TV show, because did you notice how short it was? What made absolutely no sense at all is how Larry mentioned in both the intro and outro that Larry Carlton played the guitar. Um, I don't remember hearing any guitar in the version of the song that was played.

This also leaves the first weekend of October wide open for 10/4/80, which hasn't aired since 2010. Since 1986 (its respective show for the same week last aired 2009) is now out of play it looks like the odds are pretty good. The weekend of October 5 & 6 is the next to last time in 2019 where four shows are offered. And three of those are 4-hours in length. Ah, that means that one of the 70s shows could be only one of two years. I'm erring towards 1978, since that hasn't been an "A" show since June.

At least the drought for one of those years will be broken then, and the other maybe the week before, and if not then probably in the following few weeks. 10/7/78 would be a natural choice for the four hour show as that's only been an A once before, in 2012, and the next two October 1978 shows were played in the last two years. It of course could also be 10/6/79, but I could also easily see them going with 10/20/79 later in the month; Premiere's never offered the complete version of it (hours 2-4 were played in 2011.) For the 1980s, 10/4/80 does look like the likeliest option; the only other possibility is 10/9/82 (10/2 was guest hosted). 10/3/81 and 10/3/87 were played in the last two years, and it would at least probably be too soon for more 1981.

Listening to last week’s 9/7/85 show, I was struck by how some things have changed in the last 34 years. Here’s the intro to “Shout”:
“At number 13 in the survey this week is the recent number 1 song ‘Shout’ by Tears For Fears, led by the duo of Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal. Both Englishmen are 23 years old, and they’re married. And Curt says that’s what keeps your feet on the ground: having a secure home life. [Long quote from Smith about the joys of home, which never mentions his spouse.] At number 13 here is Curt Smith, and his partner Roland Orzabal and Tears For Fears, with ‘Shout.’”
If that exact wording were used in a new show in 2019, most listeners would probably assume that the two men were married to each other.

That's exactly what I thought when I read that quote. LOL. I suppose inserting the word "both" between "they're" and "married" gives it a different connotation.

These were the optional extras back in 2014:
Hour #1: "You Give Love A Bad Name" - Bon Jovi (#47) Hour #2: "Walk Like An Egyptian" - The Bangles (#82; debuted) Hour #3: "Amanda" - Boston (#51; highest debut) Hour #4: "True Blue" - Madonna (NR)
Given that Eddie Money passed away I wonder if any will change this time around.

Probably not. His only Top 40 hit in1986 will already be on the countdown. We will most likely have to wait until the next 1987 show.

Regarding the version of the Hill Street Blues theme that was used as the first Optional Extra - it was indeed the version that was used in the intro to the TV show. I checked it out on YouTube and it was the same version, which runs for a little over a minute.

Or the next time they do 1982 they could include "Shakin'", which made the Hot 100 that October/November. It wasn't a top 40 hit, but was popular at AOR radio and has received classic rock play.
