Im a little saddened WODC fm will no longer be playing AT40 though. I understand Mike, thanks for all the hard work.

WQSR is still playing AT40, with the 1988 A show as expected. It's apparently the only regularly scheduled show on the station, with randomly programmed classic/adult hits otherwise. No actual DJ's even, unless you count Casey. Correct - which is the format of station Mike Eiland said iHeart corporate had told to drop syndicated music shows. Super psyched the show is (for now) still there.
Maybe being part of the "Jack" format (which is licensed by Sparknet Communications to stations with a variety of owners) gives it some independence that directly programmed iHeart stations don't have?

Back in 2012, the optional extras for 2/21/87 were:
"Hooked On You" Sweet Sensation "Walking Down Your Street" The Bangles "The Lady In Red" Chris DeBurgh "The Finer Things" Steve Winwood
There is a possibility that "Hooked On You" could be replaced by a song like the week's highest Hot 100 debut, "I Knew You Were Waiting For Me". Premiere did this last month (1/28/84), when "Red Red Wine" was replaced by the week's highest Hot 100 debut, "Got A Hold On Me".

I highly doubt that. It still is owned and operated by iHeart and airs the iHeart Premium Choice Variety Hits music logs. That they choose to license "Jack FM" wouldn't affect any programming, as airing the Sparknet "Jack" feed is not a requirement of using the slogan. My guess is the "powers that be" that took the syndicated shows from WODC and WHLK may be an Ohio program or market manager that does not have programming duties in Baltimore. Or - if it's a directive coming from corporate to all iHeart Variety Hits stations, we will see AT40 leave WQSR in the coming weeks. Regardless, it's hard not to see the irony here. "We Play Anything.... as long as it's within our tightly pre programmed music rotation"

"We Play Anything.... as long as it's within our tightly pre programmed music rotation" Yes, that 'Jack' tag line used to irritate me back when we had a 'Jack clone' called 'Bob' in my local market. If you say you'll 'play anything', why do I hear the same songs day after day?

I really do like the "Variety Hits" format. Obviously "anything" can't truly mean "anything" - and as the format has evolved it has gone away from a Hot AC-ish mixed with Classic Hits sound to primarily Classic Hits that goes a bit more into the 90s and 00s. But even as someone that supports tight playlists, I shouldn't hear the same song on my way to work and again on my way home from work on this format.

I spend my Saturday mornings training for marathons and listening to Casey. I gotta say that I just don't enjoy 1988 shows as much as the other shows. That year introduced more radio turds thsn any of the other years. 17 miles of that stuff was a bit rough in the cold this morning. Glad to see 1982 next week and how it starts off with Take Off. Just a random thought. Agreed. There was still a lot of leftover 86-87 crap freestyle and Madonna sound alike crap. But as we got deeper into 1988 and that faded, it got safe to return to radio again. By Casey's last show, there were lots of great tunes. It seems like this board is split when it comes to early '88 shows. I love them... too many excellent tunes that seem to be forgotten by radio today. As '88 went on, I thought the countdowns got a little weaker so by Casey's last '88 show, there were fewer great songs (but some excellent songs can be heard). I would rather listen to a February '88 show than February '83 or February '84 ... much as I love spring, summer and fall '83 shows, early '83 shows aren't quite at the level as the rest of the year. Spring and early summer '84 shows are awesome but early '84 are good... but not great. Back to last week's '88 show for two reasons: * Always great to hear an occasional long version of a song like "Love Overboard". It's a treat to hear the full version played sometimes instead of the single version. * I got a huge laugh when Casey tried singing the "Quasar" jingle when intro'ing "Endless Summer Nights". People driving around me probably thought I was nuts laughing as hard as I was but Casey provided me with some much needed humor this weekend.

There is a lot of 1988 that I like, though it's not as good as much of the 1983-86 "sweet spot" period. 1988 was more uneven, but still a number of really good songs. I've said it before, but the stretch from October 1987 through February 1988 is as good as almost any in the 80's (I thought the 12/12/87 show from a couple months ago was excellent almost all the way through). I even listened to 11/19/88 with Shadoe a couple months ago and was pleasantly surprised at how well I ended up liking the show overall.

for some reason they are not running either of this past week's shows, but one from February 9, 1985.

^Totally Awesome 80s 100.9 KTSO is scheduled to air the past week's show tonight from 7-11 central. I would expect that show will run some time after 11 pm.
