Oh..... I misunderstood. What a relief. I thought Premiere would try to pull another edit job. Nope. I believe that most if not all of the 80s years featured at least some Christmas content in shows around this time (and that includes 1988 & 89), but not every year had Christmas extras in a respective weekly countdown. (One example: 12/28/85, should we ever get it, has Christmas stories, but none of those match up with extras.)

And the first Christmas song in an 'A' show this year is "Merry Christmas Darling" in this week's show. Almost the first Christmas song I have heard anywhere this season and this one I can definitely stand! Interesting that in the Premiere presentation, Karen Carpenter will be followed by Kevin DuBrow with minimal words in between because there should be no commercial break in between segments as was the case on the original show. 12/24/83 is another week that no Christmas songs are played so it is strange that they did not wait a week to play it then.
Last week was the 12/8/84 show in which promos for a regular show were recorded for the first time. This week is the first time in the 80s that Casey mentions the songs that drop out. He did regularly through 10/30/71 and then a few times in the interim and one of those BTW was the last 70s show played in the series back in October. And for maybe just the second time ever, Casey previews the year end countdown to be played straight through. I think the first time was the week before while the week before that was guest hosted and before that was probably too early to mention it. This is the first year that the year end show was done by AT40 in one week. Prior to this, it was done in 2 weeks although affiliates did have the option of running the whole 8 hours straight through.

WWIS, unpredictable, as usual. They ended the AT40 broadcast, well before 5. Other times, they end it well PAST 5. They need to be consistent about when they end it. I'd prefer AFTER 5 myself. Got home late from work today, through no fault of my own. SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WWIS is right on to just ahead of schedule again today,oh the humanity.

Next week's show is indeed from 12/20/1980: www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/12-20-80.pdfI do not yet have confirmation as to when the designated year-end countdown will air. However, I DO have confirmation as to what that countdown will be. Should I divulge this now, or should this wait a bit?

Fun--lately not so fun--fact; the 12/20/80 countdown originally aired the same weekend Casey and Jean Kasem were married. It must have seemed like a good idea at the time...

Any 1980 optional extra clues. Wish I knew what they were already so I could give some.

Beats me, as to why Premiere gave us a Cyndi Lauper MEDLEY, as opposed to just 'Girls just wanna have fun', for an OE.

That story about Yes included a tidbit that had me checking out future shows later on in the chart run of "Owner of a Lonely Heart". The tidbit was "they broke up" and they did in 1981. Many times in the 70s Casey mentioned how the Bee Gees were the only group to break up, get back together and hit #1. Well, he never mentioned that about Yes. So unless another group beat them to it, Yes is the second group to break up, get back together and hit #1. A fact evidently not ever rendered by Casey.
