So apparently somebody is fast asleep at the switch at WMLX...they aired the 3/28/87 show for the 3rd straight week. Again, huh? Isn't this the same station that played 2/21/81 for six weeks last year? Yes, I believe it is. Will be interesting to see what kind of streak they get going with this '87 show. Always a head-scratcher--you wouldn't think it would be that hard to get the shows loaded properly, even if it is mostly automated these days.

Does anyone know if WSRS plays the Optional Extras? WSRS does not play the optional extras. Boo-urns.

Also, count on only one show for the last week of April, however. (With 1985 as an "A" show last week and a "B" show next week, and 1983 airing this week, I'd place money on this being either 1984, or maybe 1982.) In that case, I guess it'll be 4/28/84, since so far this year only 1983 and 1984 have been standalones. (Why 1985 and 1986, and probably 1982, need alternates is a mystery to me, especially when the B is only a year or two apart from it, but whatever.) 4/28/84 is a rerun, aired in 2007 and 2009, but not in the last six years. I would tend to agree with you. It almost has to be 4/28/84--it's too soon for another 1983 show (Premiere almost never airs two shows from the same year in the same month). If 1982 were to be offered as a stand-alone show, it wouldn't be out of the question to get 4/24/82 since it's been 3 years since that one was last played, but the odds would figure to favor a 1984 show.

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess: 4/28/84 2nd Guess: 4/24/82
Based on the hint we received earlier regarding next week's show, it seems like it almost has to be 1984. The '82 show is the only other possibility...though it would be a remote one.

This week's extras see not one, but two curveballs that no one guessed - one is a song that missed The 40 altogether, the other reached the countdown but wasn't a big hit. Four people guessed the other two.
And those extras are: "Since I Don't Have You" - Don McLean "Super Trouper" - ABBA "A Woman Needs Love (Just Like You Do)" - Ray Parker Jr. & Raydio "Time" - Alan Parsons Project

I think it will likely be 1984 for the final weekend of April. Reason why I think this is because there is only one more new summer 1984 show Premiere has yet to air. That would be August 25, 1984. If Premiere wants to air that show, I can see why slotting April 28, 1984 on the last weekend of April would make sense. They would allow a reasonable amount of time if they wanted to rebroadcast a June 1984 show, and after that, the next 1984 offering might be the last remaining new show from the summer of 1984. Plus do take into consideration that there are still three shows from July 1986 that have yet to air. Plus we may get a replay of a July 1988 show this year.
There are two shows from May 1984 that have yet to be aired, but I think there will likely be fresh shows for two more years after this year, so I think the remaining two May 1984 shows will be reserved for what I suspect will be the final two years of fresh shows.
I have a feeling that 1984 is going to get the same treatment as 1982 did last year in terms of "A" shows.

As the week progresses, if anyone would happen to learn what stations may be airing the 'B' (1985) show next weekend, may I impose on you to post an update if and/or as possible?
Thanks so much!!
KOLA will air 1985 Saturday morning. WMGN will air 1985 Sunday.

An interesting tidbit about Terry Stafford's "Suspicion" that was one of the 4 clips of Elvis imitations played. It was the song at #6 when the Beatles occupied the top 5 in April 1964. So the highest ranked song not by the biggest group of all time that week was an imitation of the biggest solo artist of all time.
This is the third time in as many weeks that Casey says "The Party's Over" is a live recording. What confused Casey and the AT40 staff was that it was on an album in which all the songs were live songs...except that one. Which also makes it the only new song on the album. Journey kind of did what many artists did with greatest hits albums when one or two new songs are thrown in to entice more people to buy the album. This is one of their best songs even though it basically precedes by a few months their graduation to a super group. Yes their next release will take into the top 10 for the first time.

Has anyone listened to WMMX lately? Their audio for the AT40 shows is weirdly sped up--but they don't come in late from commercials all the time like they used to. Kind of makes me wonder if they sped the shows up to make each segment shorter, thus allowing for an extra add or two each hour. However, the shows sound like crap.

Um, we might want to hold off on the applause, as WWIS has gone to a baseball game....before playing 2 and 1???

Do you believe this WWIS just finished #3 & are now airing high school baseball & will air the last 3 songs after the game. I mean they couldn't wait 10 minutes what would they miss 1-2 batters.

Apparently, they feel that high school baseball takes precedence, over what listeners on the worldwide stream tuned in for, which was the 4-18-81 countdown, UNINTERRUPTED!

As much as I'm disappointed they had to stop the show, they are a community radio station. We have options to hear the show. This is their only option to broadcast this game. So it rightfully should take priority over AT40, especially over a 30+ year old episode!
