Just listened to Casey count down "Lover Girl" by Teena Marie on WGRQ. He intro'd it by reciting the lyrics from Marie's other song "Square Biz", but instead of saying "Shakespeare, Maya Angelou..." he says "Shakespeare, Michelangelo...". GROOOOOOOANNN!!!

I referred to "Square Biz" too the other day. But from your comment, you are like mga707 in implying that it is her other top 40 hit. That distinction goes to "I Need Your Lovin". Square came out a few months later and fell just short of the top 40 although it is just as good a song IMO.

A few years later, according to the cue sheets, Shadoe got up through #29 in the first hour on 12/22/90. There were a few times in Shadoe's era where Hour 2 started at #28, including but not limited to 4/11/92 and 12/4/93. I found a couple of instances where hour 4 starts with #8. This made me think of 3/14/92, which I have; Hour 3 starts at #18.

I noticed during the 1985 show that Casey started hour two all the way up at #28 which is rare. I know that was frequent in the 70s series as it was a 3 hour show for most of that decade but for the 80s series, has this ever happened before with hour one going all the way to #29? Yes it has. There is discussion about this at the bottom of page 1214. Sorry just noticed that. My bad.lol Perhaps they had to quicken the first two hours as the songs were short, to make enough room for Hour Four which had some very lengthy songs aka We Are The World.. It's ok with me though. I'd rather them do this than cut out parts of songs.

The AT40 from 4/6/85 (to which I am now listening) begins hour two at number 28, too. I'm not sure if this one was included in any prior discussion. Apologies if it was.

WSRS here in Worcester played the 3/28/87 show. It ended at 11:50, early for them, they usually go right up to noon (and do not play any of the extras. Until I found this board I didn't know they existed.)
Question on the cue sheets: what are the (a) or (b) after song titles referring to?

I believe it is ASCAP and BMI

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess: 4/18/81 2nd Guess: 4/23/88
If it isn't a 1981 show next weekend, I might start to assume that they will no longer be offering '81 shows as 'A' shows. I have a hard time believing that's the case however...

You all (well, most of you) thought Def Leppard would have an extra this week, eh? Well, you're all wrong. That said, the odds of anyone getting all four were actually probably slim to none. I didn't catch this until Sunday, but one of the extras is a song not on this week's Hot 100. That's right, it's another "Causing a Commotion" situation; 4/16 was, of course, hosted by Bob Eubanks, and the song in question debuted in The 40 on 4/23. Extras are: "My Love" - Lionel Richie "Affair Of The Heart" - Rick Springfield (that song; it debuted at #53 on 4/16) "She's A Beauty" - The Tubes "Straight From The Heart" - Bryan Adams Thinking about it now, I'm not sure if there's a clue I could have thought of that wouldn't have just given it away. In the event of this re-occurring once again (there's definitely more opportunities for it...), though, I'll try to remember to remind everyone when there's a show that's immediately followed by a guest-hosted one. As it stands, freakyflybry and mrjukebox both guessed the other three, so they are the winners this week.

Prediction for next week's show: 1st Guess: 4/18/81 2nd Guess: 4/23/88 I have to wonder if this might end up as an A/B pairing next week. Better that for a slight change than 81 + 87 again (much as I do like 87...)

Is anyone else having trouble with the WWIS live stream? It doesn't seem to be working on my computer; all I get is dead air.
