not sure if this was pointed out previously between the A 03/22/1980 and B 03/22/1986 shows this week, but "Cats in the Cradle" was featured as a LDD in both. Speaking of which, are any other stations airing this show anytime today? (I'm guessing probably not). You might wanna try WTIC at 9pm EST.. It's the 3 hour version but rumor has it they prefer playing late 80s shows as to the early ones..

Here's the pump & dump for 3/28/1987 I'll start with a couple of 1 hit wonders 1. Shirley Murdock "As We Lay" (Nice R&B Ballad) 2. Donna Allen "Serious" (Good 80's dance song) Now a couple of long time artist's with minimal top 40 hits 1. Robert Cray Band "Smoking Gun" (Underrated blues artist that deserved more hits than only this one) 2. Cameo "Candy" (Group with lots of R&B hits but sadly only 2 Top 40's Word Up!) Sadly this dump is the same as the last 87 show Linda Ronstadt & James Ingram "Somewhere Out There" (Can't believe this is the same act that game us "How Do I Make You" on this weeks 1980 show that was so much better) BTW it looks like WTIC is becoming a Sunday night option (sadly it's only 3 hours but it's better than nothing for the "B" show but I'm guessing they'll pick this show over the 1981 "B" option.

Good theory. This interstitial period between disco and new wave also allowed country to get a foot back in the pop music door.

I'm with you on the Donna Allen and Robert Cray songs. I remember both of those from back in the day and liked them both. Also with you on "Somewhere Out There"...a typical cheesy overproduced ballad from the late 80's.

I'm guessing next week KOKZ and KOLA both play 1981; KOKZ is well known for avoiding the later 80s shows when they can, and KOLA chose 1981 over 1987 two months ago when presented with the same choice, which is the only other regularly scheduled 1981 AT40 we've had so far this year (Gary Owens was a special case.) Since this week we get 1980 as an A after a few B offerings from that year, I'm guessing that we may still get a 1981 A show in April, of course paired with something from later. See how KOLA is, they can be unpredictable! At least so far according to their website at www.kolafm.com/casey-kasem/Casey Kasem: The 80’s This Saturday, Casey will feature the American Top 40 (Chart Date March 28, 1987). I think these stations might have the 1981 show: KCCL-last 5 weeks have been 1983(B),1984(B),1982(A),1984,1980(A)-1981 would fit here (10 am est-Sun) v5.player.abacast.com/v5.1/player/index.php?uid=6959KOOL-plays B shows more frequently than other stations (9 am est Sat) player.radio.com/listen/station/945-kool-fmKXGL-played the 1984 B show when 1986 A show was available last month. I don't know if it's been brought up yet, but did anyone know what was up with the weird edit at the end of the 3rd hour on the 3/22/80 show? Following the #1 archive song ("If I Can't Have You"), it cut straight to a split logo rather than the end-of-hour theme music and Casey doing his typical "we've got the 10 biggest hits in the USA coming right up", etc. And not only was it a split logo, but it was a split logo jingle from the 1984-87 theme music, not a version that would've been played during 1980! Sounded strange, and I'm curious as to why they would have done that (e.g. for the 3/17/84 show, the opening hour theme was cut out--presumably because of the Dr. Pepper promo from the original show--was there something similar here?)...

Yeah I've noticed it too last Sunday morning on 1980 show. I think it was Premiere weird edit part.
Yeah, I listened to WTIC for Mar 22, 1986 last Sunday 9PM-12AM (started hour 2), I think this time it's been done. If anyone would like B show, already listed above are radio stations more likely to air B part (1981)

I noticed Casey finished the 1980 show last week with the usual "join me again next week". But that show was guest hosted. Did Casey always say that, even when he was off the following countdown? Guess I never noticed before. Yes - Casey never (or it was *extremely* rare) changed his sign off. Almost always, it was still "join me next week" when he would be off the following week. And never once did he tease that a guest host would be on the following week.

I do know I listened to a WW1 show recently where he re worded it to "until next week" on the week before a David Perry show. But that was rare.

Disco's demise was so sudden and unexpected, I don't think there was anything in the pipeline to replace it. Culture Club and Duran2 were off in the distance. I fully agree. After disco's sudden demise, there was no great year for music until around 1984. To me, 1984 was the year there was a lot of good upbeat music - the best year for music after disco's peak year of 1979. And it got better and better each year after that, until later in 1988.

Nor did he on the 2/21/98 WW1 shows or the 1/3/04 AT40

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess: 4/2/88 2nd Guess: 4/6/85
Until this week, I was banking on 4/4/87 for the first week in April. Not so much now...
