WGHN went back to song #7, but still didn't cover songs 10-8.

Since that is likely the last regular show played in 2014 and we haven't heard 1983 since the end of October, my (imaginary) money is on the year-end show being the Top 100 of 1984.

Does Sam's Club have a problem saying 'Christmas'? The female voiceover said, 'this holiday'.

Getting back to 1987, this weekend's shows are very representative of two different Casey Kasems (as described in "The Five Caseys" thread). While the 1971 show was Casey at his quietest, the December 12, 1987 show was very much Commentary Casey, with a lot of info and especially a lot of funny quips, wordplay, and one liners, often delivered offhand and improvised-sounding; sometimes it seemed to almost be "Evening At the Improv Casey". Either the writers were in a particularly humourous mood at that point, or Casey really felt free to stick in the quips.

I take back what I said about the creepy LDD. Maybe I was too hard on "Christopher". It's sad actually, he was standing out in the cold waiting for Tiffany to give her a rose and he never even talked to her. I listened to it again and it actually made me sad for him. Although I don't know what he was expecting. A date with Tiffany? You never know if you're dealing with a Mark David Chapman or what. Hopefully he was older than 16 or else it's still inappropriate. I wonder if Tiffany heard this and felt sorry for him, at least she said "hello" to him, that's something I guess.

You never know if you're dealing with a Mark David Chapman or what. Funny you say that because Tiffany has actually had an obsessed fan/stalker for many years, a man 18 years older than her. There's actually a documentary about him and another obsessed fan called (what else?) "I Think We're Alone Now". This is the trailer for it:

You never see that part of fame, you hear all the great stuff but celebrities are often in a lot of danger. There are a lot of kooks out there, I imagine now it's even worse. You can't go anywhere without a camera phone in your face. Speaking of Mark David Chapman, the 34th (wow, 34 years) anniversary of John Lennon's death just passed. Can't believe it's been 34 years since John Lennon's been alive .

OK, so just listened to the WMLX airing...very strange--at the show's closing, Casey announced the chart date of July 25, 1987. Did any other stations do this, or can we assume that WMLX used the wrong file for the ending?
Nobody else has called this out yet, so I'm assuming it was only on that station...
EDIT: I just saw mjl677's post from yesterday--it appears to have been a mishap on the part of Premiere.

Even more so but less recognized, the 11th marked the 50th anniversary of the untimely death of soul & Gospel pioneer Sam Cooke!

EDIT: I just saw mjl677's post from yesterday--it appears to have been a mishap on the part of Premiere. Musta been, as I've heard the end credits mashup on all of the broadcasts I've tuned into this weekend (WBET, KTHI, KGOR, and KQMA). Wonder if Michael Cooper was sampling some unusual egg nog while editing this week's program... A couple of observations about the 12/12/87 show... Roger Troutman must be a big fan of the vocoder. He uses it on his own hit at #35, but that's also him you hear using it on Dr. Dre and Tupac's big hit from 1996, "California Love". Interesting that Elton John, Steve Winwood, George Harrison, and Sting were all in the Top 40 at the same time around this time in 1987. All four have had the privelege of collaborating with Eric Clapton at one time or another in their careers (Elton's team-up with Eric, "Runaway Train", appears on Elton's 1992 album THE ONE, and ranks as one of my 5 favorite songs ever). It sure would have been better than the Hour #2 song that was chosen that nobody guessed. Maybe this board's wisdom exceeds that of Premiere... Hay now--"Pop Goes the World" is three minutes of sheer genius! And the video is one that simply has to be seen to be believed. And did you ever notice that at the 3:02 mark of the song's video, right after the line "end up in some disco dancing all night", there's a sped-up version of the synthesizer riff from "The Safety Dance"?
