Thank you for that bit of information! I was going to ask if there were any station welcomes that week due to Premiere's wacky editing. LOL It's worth noting that of the stations mentioned on 10/17/81, four are doing CHR or some variant thereof today, 31 years later... KISR, KIZZ, KKEZ, and WDJQ. The latter two, of course, had some format changes (and in WDJQ's case, call sign changes as well) in the interim. Here's "Where Are They Now" for the affiliates that haven't been mentioned before... KIKI - This was actually a double station mention with KMAI-FM. KIKI was well known locally for sponsoring a talent contest for upcoming young performers called "Brown Bags to Stardom." At least one winner of this competition went on to worldwide stardom - Glenn Medeiros - with a little help from KZZP Phoenix's Guy Zapoleon, as Casey related in the 6/27/1987 show that was aired last year. Anyway, in 1986, KIKI would ditch its Top 40 format for oldies, and KMAI would switch from AOR to Rhythmic CHR KIKI-FM "I94" (later "Hot 93.9"). In September 2010, KIKI-FM became Rhythmic AC KHJZ. The AM is now news/talker KHVH. WIKZ - Now an AC station known as Mix 95.1. KINL - Now Hot AC. WISE - Per Wiki, this would drop Top 40 for Standards later in the decade. It's now an all-sports outlet. WIZR - Interesting story here if the Wiki article is accurate; this station may have already changed format and call letters by the time this show aired. The long and short of it: sometime in '81 (date not given), WIZR switched from Top 40 to Music of Your Life as WMYL; it would regain the WIZR calls in 1984 and is today an oldies station. There was a WIZR-FM but it was an oldies station in 1981. Today that station is country WZMR with a different city of license. For more: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WIZR KKEZ - Still playing the hits today as a dayparted Hot AC days/CHR nights. However, per Wiki it had a brief format adjustment to Soft AC a few years ago. Not surprisingly, with the KKEZ calls, it had a beautiful music format before going Top 40 in 1979. KQAA - Now KLRJ, a K-Love affiliate playing contemporary Christian music.

Station mentions for October 18, 1986:
* WXIE 92 Wixie, Oakland, MD (92.1) - This was an MOR outlet airing AT40. Per Wiki, the station moved to its current 92.3 frequency in 1991, becoming a classic hits format at that point, then went off the air in 1994, to be revived the following year as country WWHC (remains such today) after a sale. * Radio 13, Fairbury, NE - KGMT (1310). An AC outlet then, now Oldies. * Power 96 FM, WHYT, Detroit * Y95 KOYE, Laredo, TX * The Station with the Gold, WKZX Presque Isle, ME (950) - An AC outlet carrying the show, and interestingly the station specifically mentions "American Top 40 4 hrs. weekly" in the 1987 Broadcasting Yearbook under "special programming" listed. The station was originally WAGM, and according to the Wiki article on its former sister TV station, the radio station went dark later in the '80s. * 95X WGSX, San Juan, PR - Usually when Casey mentioned this station he named the city as Hato Rey. This was the first time I heard it mentioned as San Juan, which is the market it actually served(serves). I thought Casey misread the calls as WTSX, and Pete's book proves me right. * 93Q KKBQ, Houston, TX * Hit Music & More, CQ102, Geneva, NY - WECQ at 101.7. It became country WFLK in 1996. The WECQ calls survive as a hit music station today, but in Fort Walton Beach, FL. * Radio 610 KUAM, Agana, Guam * WNBY Stereo 93, Newberry, MI - WNBY aired at 1450 AM and 93.5 FM then as an AC station. The AM station has been classic country but went off the air recently from a lightning strike and I'm not sure it's returned yet. The FM station is now "Oldies 93" at 93.9, serving the Sault Ste. Marie area. On other shows, Casey mentioned a "WNBY-AM and FM" in Nashville, TN, but I'm convinced that was an error (even though it's in Pete's book), as the WNBY calls have always been in Newberry, at least during the AT40 era, and there has never been a WNBY in Nashville to my knowledge. * WNVA-FM, Norton, Wise and Coeburn, VA (106.3) - This station seems to be essentially the same as it was in 1986 - Full Service, with AC music. Per Wiki it was a Classic Country station for a few years.
New station welcomed: * 1600 AM & 103.9 FM, KRFS, Superior, NE - Another full-service outlet airing the show. Broadcasting Yearbook lists the format as "MOR and C&W." Today, those two formats are split between the two stations, as the FM is Country and the AM is MOR (or more accurately, Adult Contemporary).

chrisinmi, You're right. The WNBY call letters (of Nashville, TN) must've been in error. And puzzling how that happened.

Well, with however many subscribing radio stations they had in the mid-'80s, there were bound to be a few errors. It doesn't take anything away from the enjoyability of the program, of course. FWIW, it seems Nashville's AT40 affiliate at that time was WWKX (Gallatin). One pretty blatant error from one show in February 1980 was when Casey announced station WJML as being in "Petoskey, Virginia." There is no Petoskey, VA - it's Petoskey, MI. I actually heard an aircheck from that station where they played a clip of Casey reading the erroneous station mention, followed by a chorus of people yelling, "WHO? " and then Casey correcting himself. Quite funny. Pete, I have your '70s book and I love it! I love especially your essay about your journey through your childhood with Top 40 radio and AT40. I want to get the '80s version as well (I've seen some snippets posted on Google Books), but my financial situation is a little dire at the moment, so I'm looking into requesting it for Christmas.

I remember in the Shadoe era, the affiliate in Jamestown, North Dakota, was often misread as Jamestown, Maryland.
This is particularly inexplicable, because Shadoe is from Jamestown, North Dakota!

I also know, from Pete's '70s book, that WUUN (now WFXD) in Marquette, MI was announced as "Marquette, MO" when it was an affiliate station in the '70s.

Station mentions for 10/30/82:
* WFMO Fairmont, NC * KJMO Jefferson City, MO (100.1) - KJMO today is an oldies station at 97.5. The former KJMO frequency is now KBBM, an active rocker. * "CKBK" London, ON Canada - Misread of CJBK, and Casey made the same error on the last 1984 show we heard (8/11) (confirmed via Pete's book that this is, in fact, CJBK). * KNOG Natchitoches, LA (1450) - A full-service station in 1982, now a news/talker. * WPIQ Brunswick, GA (101.5) - Now WSOL, an urban AC serving the Jacksonville, FL market. * WPNF Brevard, NC (1240) - An AC station carrying the show in 1982. Now WSQL with a very broad-based music format including AC, CHR and oldies. * WRUM (790)/WWMR (96.3) Rumford, ME - A full-service station airing MOR and country music in 1982, and per the 1983 BY the FM was a 50% simulcast. Today the AM, now at 780, is WTME with a dayparted religious/soft AC format, and the FM (now with a different city of license) is WJJB, a sports station. It appears these two were the Portland area's AT40 affiliates. * KAFM Dallas, TX * WKXN Greenville, AL * WDNH Honesdale, PA (95.3) - Listed as an MOR station in BY '83; now a Hot AC (Wiki says Top 40, but judging by their playlist, it's Hot AC).

Also, one new station was welcomed - KNNX in Huntsville, TX (Casey misread the calls as KKNX). An AC station at 1400 AM, it had just signed on 10/4/82 according to the Broadcasting Yearbooks. Today at 1410 as KHCH, it's now a Christian station broadcasting in Spanish and several Asian languages.

Well, if there were any station welcomes on 11/1/80, they were again cut from the Premiere broadcast, as they for some inexplicable reason cut Casey's intro to hour number two (particularly maddening since they didn't do any wacky editing like with last week's 1982 show and the 1981 show a couple of weeks ago, aside from cutting the archive #1 songs of the '60s). Can anyone fill in the blanks on that?
Here were the stations mentioned in the hourly station mentions that week:
* WABI Bangor, ME (previously mentioned) * WAKQ Russellville, KY (101.1) - Now WUBT, an urban station serving the Nashville, TN market, though still licensed to Russellville. * WBSR Pensacola, FL (1450) - Now a sports station (just switched from soft AC a little over a year ago). * WAQT Carrollton, AL (94.1) - This station airs the current AT40 with Seacrest under its current call letters, WZBQ. It's been a CHR station with those calls since 1996. * KIFW Sitka, AK (previously mentioned) * KAYS Hays, KS (previously mentioned) * WBCM Bay City, MI (1440) - This was an AC station airing AT40 in 1980. Their time of carrying the show would be over by January 1982, when WIOG-FM picked it up. Now WMAX, a Catholic station. This station has nothing to do with the current WBCM, a country station in Boyne City, MI, although the WBCM calls fit nicely with both cities. * WBBO Forest City, NC (780) - Now WWOL, a Southern Gospel outlet. * WQMV Vicksburg, MS (98.7) - Now WJKK, an AC outlet serving the Jackson market. * KAVL Lancaster, CA (610) - An MOR outlet carrying the show in 1980, now a Fox Sports Radio affiliate. * WCIT Lima, OH (previously mentioned)

These stations were mentioned on 11/12/1983:
* KSKU Hutchinson, KS (102.1) - Now country KZSN. * KTIL Tillamook, OR - KTIL was/is an AM/FM combo, then at 1450 and 104.1. Broadcasting Yearbook 1984 lists the AM format as MOR and does not list a format for the FM. Today, KTIL-AM is at 1590 with a talk format and KTIL-FM is a country station at 95.9. * KJNO Juneau, AK (630) - An AC station in 1983, now a news/talker. * KRCH Rochester, MN (101.7) - Now a classic rocker. * WXTY Ticonderoga, NY (103.9) - Listed as an MOR format in 1983. Today it's WANC, an NPR affiliate rebroadcasting Albany's WAMC. * KHTR St. Louis, MO (103.3) * WQXB Grenada, MS (100.1) * KHBQ Canyon, TX (107.1) - Now country KPUR. * Radio 610, Port-of-Spain, Trinidad * WSAT, Salisbury, NC (1280) - A split MOR and Country format in 1983. Today it's adult standards. * KNIN Wichita Falls, TX (92.9) - Still CHR today, and they have the current Seacrest AT40. * WENS Indianapolis, IN (97.1)
No station welcomes.

Belatedly, here are the station mentions from 11/17/84. A number of these stations have been mentioned in this thread already so those are first:
* WJGS Houghton Lake, MI * KJR Seattle, WA * K105 FM KOKR Newport, AR * The Voice of the Mother Lode KNGT Jackson, CA * 98Q WTCQ Vidalia, GA * Hit Radio 95 WPLJ New York, NY * KVSL Show Low, AZ * WQXB Grenada, MS * KLUC Las Vegas, NV
Now for the others: * 1240 WROV, Roanoke, VA - A legendary Top 40 station during the '60s and '70s, softened to AC by the mid-'80s. Now WGMN, an ESPN Radio affiliate. * CKBW Bridgewater, NS Canada - In 1984, it was an "MOR/C&W" station at 1000 AM. It moved to the FM dial at 98.1 in 2001 and is an AC station today. * KSRA AM & FM Salmon, ID (960/92.7) - A full-service operation carrying the show then, although per the 1985 Broadcasting Yearbook the stations were mostly separate operations. Today (per Wiki) the AM is AC and the FM is Country.
New stations welcomed: * AM 1470 KBSN Moses Lake, WA - AC then, News/Talk today. * Q106 KNMQ Santa Fe & Albuquerque, NM (actually 105.9) - Now KRZY, and has been a Spanish station with those calls since 1996. Q106's Top 40 days ended in 1990 when the station became country KOLT, and then spent a few months as classic country "Krazy 105.9" in 1996 before shifting to Spanish. * KHOO FM 100 Waco, TX (actually 99.9) - Then the AC-formatted sister station to then-country WACO-AM 1460. Today the country plays on the FM station as WACO-FM, and the AM station moved out of Waco about a decade ago and now is based in Burleson, TX as KCLE. * WWKF Union City, TN (99.3) - Actually licensed to Fulton, KY. Also mentioned 11-7-87 as "Music Radio KF99." Still known as "KF99" and still a CHR station today, simulcast with "KQ105" WAKQ Paris, TN. Also part of the Seacrest AT40 family today. BTW, in 1984, today's WAKQ (105.5) was country WTPR-FM, sister station to WTPR-AM which was itself part of the AT40 family.

These stations were mentioned on the 11/22/86 show: * AM 97 WAMD - Aberdeen, MD * Q105 KXYQ - Salem, OR - Now KRSK, an Adult CHR station serving the Portland market. This station was previously KSKD and carried AT40 under those calls as well. * "Not Too Hard, Not Too Lite" 97.9 WNCI - Columbus, OH * 95.3 WDNH - Honesdale, PA * Radio Hauraki - Auckland, NZ (1XA) * "The Voice of the Microplex" KVMX - Eastland, TX - I'm stumped on this one. All I've been able to find about this station is what the Broadcasting Yearbooks tell me, which is that it was on 96.7 and apparently was one of those country stations that carried AT40, although perhaps not because later sources list it as an AC station, so BY may have been wrong. I did find a blurb somewhere that it had been sold and moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth market but it appears to have nothing to do with the station now on 96.7 (WBAP-FM) in the Metroplex. Can anyone fill in the blanks? * Q94 WRVQ - Richmond, VA * All Hit Rock 99 KWTO - Springfield, MO (98.7) - This was an AOR station carrying AT40, although according to Wiki, it did switch to CHR a few months later in March '87. Since then, it's been AC, classic rock, and, since 2001, Sports - possibly one of the first FM all-sports stations. * Z93 WZGC - Atlanta, GA - Just flipped to Sports a little over a month ago, on 10/24/12. Z93's Top 40 days began in 1973 and ended in 1987 with a switch to Urban/Dance and then to Classic Rock in 1989, then to its most recent format prior to the current one, AAA "Dave FM," in 2004. * AM 1240 WKDK - Newberry, SC - Appears to have been the first mention of the station here since we last heard from them way back on 12-4-82. In his ID, Casey did mention the station was celebrating its 40th anniversary. (Indeed, Broadcasting Yearbook lists the sign-on date as October 1946.) * Magic 97 WGLQ - Escanaba/Marquette/Iron Mountain, MI * Tora Tora Tora( ) 100.5 FM - Bangkok, Thailand (couldn't find any info on this station anywhere) One new station welcomed, 96 FM KEZY in Anaheim, CA, which is now contemporary Christian KFSH (The Fish).

Station mentions from 12/07/1985:
* KSRA AM & FM - Salmon, ID * 14Q WFTQ - Worcester, MA * Q102 "Cincinnati's Hot FM" WKRQ - Cincinnati, OH * KITS - San Francisco, CA * The Amazing AM 128 WSAT - Salisbury, NC * Z106 WZGO - Philadelphia, PA * "Where Your Friends Are" WGAW - Gardner, MA (1340) - Now a talk station. * Marshalltown's Best Music KDAO - Marshalltown, IA (1190) - Now a "True Oldies" outlet. * 93.1 KTYL - Tyler, TX - An MOR/AC outlet then. They've added Hot to their AC since and are now known as Mix 93.1. * Music Radio KF99 - Union City, TN * Q102 FM WAAQ - Big Rapids, MI (102.3) - Also mentioned 12-22-84. Now Hot AC WYBR (Y102). * Armed Forces Radio - "around the globe"
New stations welcomed: * WPLK AM 1220 - Rockmart, GA - Now classic country WZOT. No relation to the current WPLK in Palatka, FL. * All Hit 98 WMDM and WPTX-AM 92 - Lexington Park, MD - WMDM (97.7) has gone through more format changes than you can shake a stick at since and even dumped the heritage WMDM calls for a time; a complete rundown can be found on their Wikipedia page. They're now classic rock. WPTX (an MOR/AC outlet in 1985) is now a news/talk station operating in the expanded AM band at 1690.

Here are the stations mentioned on the 12/12/1981 show:
* KCRV Carruthersville, MO * WCSI Columbus, IN * KDAO Marshalltown, IA * WDEB Jamestown, TN * KDWB St. Paul and Minneapolis, MN * WDNH Honesdale, PA * WEGP Presque Isle, ME * WDRQ Detroit, MI * KEEL Shreveport, LA * WEAQ Eau Claire, WI (790) - An MOR outlet carrying the show in 1981. In 1996, it switched frequences with WAYY-AM 1150 Chippewa Falls. WAYY is now on 790 as a news/talk station, and WEAQ is a sports talker on 1150.
No new stations welcomed.
