On 10/13/73, Casey said of the Pointer Sisters "Looks like they've got a top 10 tune" with their first hit, "Yes We Can Can". It moved up from #14 to #11 that week--and no higher. The Pointers would of course make the top 10 seven times later (1979-85), with three more near misses that peaked at #11 or #13.
He also jinxed the Allman Brothers' "Ramblin' Man", saying "Looks like it's going to be #1", though that wasn't exactly an illogical guess given that it jumped from #7 to #2. But he didn't anticipate the ramblin' men being passed by Mick, Keith, and "Angie" driving on the left.

"Ramblin' Man", Allman Brothers, this week's '73 show: "Looks like it's gonna be number one, this week number two". I think everyone who followed the chart then, myself include, were certain it would indeed be #1 the following week!

Reverse jinx: on 10/13/73 Casey mentioned that it was rare for a movie soundtrack to have two singles in the top 40 at the same time. The other 70's episode from last weekend 10/14/78 had two movies with multiple hits.

On October 23, 1976, Casey said that KISS would always wear makeup on stage. They stopped wearing makeup in 1983, though they would resume in the 90's when the original line-up reunited and continue to this day.

They stopped wearing makeup in 1983, though they would resume in the 90's when the original line-up reunited and continue to this day. And during the no makeup on era, KISS only had 1 more top 40 hit in 1990: "Forever" (That was during the Shadoe Stevens AT40 era, of course).

Truly, IMO, their worst hit ever!

On June 13, 1987 Casey said Kenny Loggins's "Meet Me Halfway" at #11 "looks top 10 bound." It would stay at #11 the following week then start dropping.

On AT40: The 80's 10/25/1986: Casey mentioned about the time "The Star Spangled Banner" had only 1 Hot 100 chart run by Jose Feliciano (and how it offended World Series fans when Jose performed it at Game 5 of the World Series in 1968), believe it or not: In 1991 there was one more version of "The Star Spangled Banner" to make the Billboard Hot 100 and it made the AT40 reaches (then hosted by Shadoe Stevens): Whitney Houston's version!

Reverse jinx:
On July 4, 1987 Whitney Houston was having her third #1 song in a row with "I Want To Dance With Somebody" and Casey said the record for most #1's in a row was 6 held by the Bee Gees. Houston would break that record 9 months later with her 7th straight #1 "Where Do Broken Hearts Go".

Reverse jinx: On July 4, 1987 Whitney Houston was having her third #1 song in a row with "I Want To Dance With Somebody" ... Actually, it was her fourth in a row: 1. "Saving All My Love for You" 2. "How Will I Know" 3. "Greatest Love of All" 4. "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)" 5. "Didn't We Almost Have It All" 6. "So Emotional" 7. "Where Do Broken Hearts Go"

Probably the biggest reverse jinx ever: Casey said on the 10/27/1979 show that the biggest solo hit Michael Jackson had was a song about a rat named Ben.

Wouldn't even be his biggest hit with 3 letters in the title. (See Casey's intro to the #1 song on the 10/31/87 show.)

On 10/25/80, Casey listed Stevie Wonder's #1 hits to that time (six in all) and said "This week Stevie's making another run at #1" with "Master Blaster", which peaked at #5. Later in the same show he noted that the Pointer Sisters had previously reached #2 with "Fire" and said "the Pointers are putting on the pressure to go all the way" with "He's So Shy", at its peak of #3. The Pointers ultimately never had a #1.

Some sort of jinx on 11/3/84...Casey said Elton John told the press that he was thinking his current tour would be his last. Flash ahead 34 years and Elton is now on his "farewell" tour, which I believe is supposed to run one or two more years.
