Yeah I noted that in the other thread without mentioning it specifically. He said 'another #1'? They had none at that point so saying 'another' would also not make sense.

The Machine didn't hit #1 'til 'Don't wanna lose you'.

The Machine didn't hit #1 'til 'Don't wanna lose you'. Actually, the group hit #1 over a year earlier with "Anything For You" (Weeks of May 14 and May 21, 1988)

Elton John was jinxed several times according to this thread, and 8/16/75 was another one when Casey said that "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" was still climbing toward #1. That was a reasonable assumption given Elt's track record at the time, but it got no higher than that week's position of #4.

A CT40 example: Casey said, on November 21, 1992, that Richard Marx's first 12 hits all made the top 10 and that "Chains Around My Heart" was on its way to becoming his 13th. It would stall one notch higher at #18.

On this week's 1975 show Casey said, "here is a song that is charting like a #1"...#9 Run Joey Run would only go five spots higher. One song later there was a jinx/ reverse jinx. Casey said "it looks like John Denver is headed to the top one more time". I'm Sorry would get to #1 and it would be JDs final trip there, or even the top 10.

After saying a few times that he was counting down to an unusual #1 song...unusual in that it is the #1 song...Casey opened the second hour of the 9/17/77 show by saying "We are counting down to what could be the #1 song of the year". Well, it's "I Just Want to be Your Everything" returning to #1 after being out for 4 weeks. I wonder how many listeners were scratching their heads at this point if they remember that early in the survey year "Tonight's the Night" had spent 8 weeks on top. And whatever was going to be #1 this week would only be up to 4 weeks at #1. Had AT40 used the Billboard chart, Casey would have jinxed it but they did not want a '1976' song to be #1 for 1977 and IJWTBYE was indeed the #1 song of the year. Wonder if that little prediction by Casey in this show played a part in that decision!
EDIT....looks like no one was paying attention in class today. 7 hours ago, I said it was 3 weeks that Andy Gibb was out of the #1 spot. It was actually 4 weeks now that I have gotten to the end of this show.

On this week's 1984 show, Casey told the story of how Jackson's current hit Torture moved them into 3rd place as the black group with the most top 40s. The guys from Gary would never crack the countdown again.

On this week's 1977 show, Casey that 'Keep it comin', love', could give KC and the Sunshine band, their 5th #1 song. It'd stop 1 notch short, at #2.

Another second run of Casey's AT40 jinx: He said that Mariah Carey had now charted in every single year since her debut when introducing "I Know What You Want" on the 2003 year-end. She failed to reach the top 40 in 2004, breaking her streak, though she did hit several times afterwards.
