I've noted with great anticipation the way you guys make the predictions on extras for AT40 (70s & 80s). I'm always amazed at the accuracy of your choices and I'm sure no one cheats by having an advance copy of Premiere Cue Sheets. The pride you all take when your songs are spot on is testimony to your dedication to AT40. So what does it take to be a predictor with these skills, what do you factor in to make those decisions?? Hope you guys can shed some light on this..it will sure lend some insight to the inner workings of the mind of an AT40 listener.

For me it is just sheer luck. I only look at the songs from 41-100 on said weeks chart. I believe that with all my predictions right this week this marks only the second time I have been right on all extras for the 80s shows this year.

When I make my predictions, I usually choose songs that either entered the Hot 100 that week or are a week away from entering the Top 40. Sometimes I'll choose a song that didn't hit the Top 40 but is well-known or played a lot (I Melt With You, It's Raining Men, Words, etc) or a song I like that I want to hear as an extra. [I've only got all four correct once so far (one of the 1982 countdowns this year) and the order I had them listed was the same order they were played on the show.] If you don't have any of the Billboard books like some people here do, this site is a great place to go and take a look at the charts from any particular date.
