Amazing how many artists have previous connections to artists currently in the countdown. Deniece Williams was a member of Stevie Wonder's backup band as was Jennifer Warnes for Glen Campbell and Jackson Browne wrote the Eagles first hit or should I say wrote Eagles' first hit! And that is only counting the ones Casey mentioned. I am a big Elton fan and almost as big disco fan but I have to say to this point in his career, "Bite You Lip" is his worst top 40 hit. Like Casey calling Natalie Cole the queen of the soul chart. After all, she is the one who ended THE queen of the soul chart's 8 year run of winning the Grammy for Female R&B record of the year or whatever that was one that she won 8 straight years. Kind of fitting that Casey first made light of the chart changes after mentioning the new stations. Because he mentioned those after the first song of the third hour. Usually new stations are mentioned at the start of the third hour. So 2 things that were somewhat late were mentioned at the same time.

Good lord, the only thing progressive about Progressive's "Flo" commercials is how they've gotten progressively worse.

The day that Flo and the frizzies are no longer aired as commercials will be the day we get a 1980/1981 A show. LOL

KMCH now playing 1972. (And it ran long; it didn't end until 5:20).
Regarding the extra (optional this time) "Ruby Tuesday", Casey was a bit off when he said it was #1 "five years ago today". It topped the Billboard chart on 3/4/67; on 3/11/67 (which was exactly five years before the countdown being played) the Supremes hit #1 with "Love Is Here and Now You're Gone".
And being partially Welsh myself, it was great to hear the Shirley Bassey extra as well as Larry mentioning her nationality in the intro.

Lots of stations opting for the 1977 show this weekend. Even KLOU, who I've never known to air a 'B' show, went with the '77. Makes you wonder if this is another sign that the early 70s are dying off in commercial radio?

Going back to last week's 1979 show when Casey answered a question about an offspring hitting the charts before their mom and/or dad. As you know, Casey said that Carla Thomas' "Gee Whiz" hit the top ten before her dad Rufus' "Walking The Dog" did the same. My question is since that show aired has there been other examples of this occurrence or is this still the only time that's happened?

Makes you wonder if this is another sign that the early 70s are dying off in commercial radio? It absolutely is. Not to mention the rather large number of stations that have dropped the 70s shows in favor of the 80s shows in the last few years. It's just the natural progession of things. 10 years ago "Oldies" was primarily a 60s and 70s format. Now, it's "Classic Hits" and it focuses the most on 70s and 80s, with more emphasis on rock than before.

I grew up just 60 miles north of P burg, I could barely get that station in south central Nebraska , just a stones' throw away across the Kansas border. They had a restaurant there called The Chubby Pickle. No kidding!

My question is since that show aired has there been other examples of this occurrence or is this still the only time that's happened? There was one that was close. In 1988, Ivan Neville, son of Aaron Neville , had a hit called "Not Just Another Girl" that hit #26. A year later, Aaron Neville returned to the charts with Linda Ronstadt with "Don't Know Much." Aaron Neville had only one hit back in 1967 called "Tell It Like It Is" which thwarted the prospect of child before parent charting, even though Aaron had not had a hit in 22 years at that point.

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess - 3/23/74 2nd Guess - 3/27/71
Either one of these would be new...thinking that 1974 might have the upper hand in light of the apparent waning in appeal of early 70s music to radio stations?
