Spolier alert:The countdown from 8/23/75 has a debut tune called "The Proud One" by The Osmonds-According to Pete Battistini's book "AT40-The 70's",the B-side "The Last Day Is Coming" was played by mistake-This wasn't the first time that a screw up like this took place:In the fall of 1971,the same thing happened with the song "I Ain't Got Time Anymore" by The Glass Bottle. wonder if they corrected the error during the remastering of the show (we'll find out at the weekend ) Hope they do--I haven't heard the Osmonds' final top 40 single as a group in decades. As I recall it sounded a lot like "Love Me For a Reason".

This also happened on 10/13/73 when "I'm Falling in Love With You" by Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye was played. Incidentally, Pete mistitled the song too. He wrote that it was called "I Just Fall in Love Again". But the flip side of "You're a Special Part of Me" is the one I listed and that is the song that was played. And I butchered the title myself before editing it!

Unless Casey doesn't talk over the beginning and end of the song, it'd be pretty hard to edit in an entirely different song in place of the one that was originally played. I personally would like the show to be played exactly as it was in 1975--it's some of those little quirks that make the show's history as fascinating as it was.

Prediction for next week's show: 1st Guess: 8/28/76 2nd Guess: 8/27/77 Not to upset JessieLou with another '76 show 1977 continues to have the longest drought, but I'm going to bet that they wait a week and play 9/3/77 since it would be a new show (8/27/77 was last played in 2010). Could be wrong about that though. Another good possibility is 8/26/72--also last aired in 2010...

Among the other B-sides played, on 9/1/73 Casey played the B side of Carole King's "Believe In Humanity", titled "You Light Up My Life" (not the same song as Debby Boone's 1977 hit.) "You Light Up My Life" was listed on the cue sheet, so it apparently wasn't a mistake.
And then there were the five or so times in April/May 1977 when the wrong side (part 2) of "Got to Give It Up" was played.

Speaking of CKOC, it will officially flip to sports on September 7th (Labor Day in the US). That means 4 more weeks of Classic AT40 on that station. Crap, drats, nuts and shucks! That should about cover my family-friendly sentiments regarding the CKOC format-flip. Now for the unsanitized version...
The only saving grace is that it's Labor Day in Canada too, on September 7th -- they just give it a little extra "character" (Labour Day). When I visited
Ontario on Labor Day 2000, I had two Canadians ask me if and/or when we celebrate U.S. Labor Day. Both were surprised when I told them we celebrate
it the same day as they do in Canada.

Listening to the osmonds b side on the august 23rd show and casey talks over the intro and at the end ,it will either have to be left in and the proud one used as a premiere extra (with larry morgan explaining the error) or they may have to use caseys intro from a later show

Nobody guessed more than one correct this week. And only one person guessed Helen Reddy. And, naturally, one extra was missed entirely. All you Orleans guessers: Shame on you. This week's extras are: Helen Reddy - Ain't No Way to Treat a Lady Pete Wingfield - Eighteen With a Bullet Jefferson Starship - Miracles "18 With a Bullet" is quite a curveball, as it was Wingfield's only hit and only got to #15. The week before it peaked there it was indeed at #18 with a bullet, a factoid that I wouldn't be surprised to hear in Larry Morgan's intro.

I'm with you on this one Matt .It should be played as if it was August 23rd 1975 . That countdown last week with that track added Carol King Believe in Humanity didn't sound right to me with no intro . Glad somebody mention on here so just wasn't me that noticed it.

There's only one alternate version of a song that I would ever want to hear edited into an original AT40 broadcast and that's "American Pie". I understand why the edited version exists and was usually played but anytime a 1971-1972 show with it comes up I always end up playing the full version on YouTube. Of course I know that it's highly unlikely to ever happen because other parts of the show would presumably have to be edited but it would be nice.

What an unusually few stories pertaining to songs that were in this show. Enjoyed the story not pertaining to a song in the show about Dee Dee Sharp. Did not know she married one half of one of the top producing teams in the 70s. Had back to back songs whose subject matter centered around bar scenes. But what happened in those bars could not be more different huh! Talking about the songs by Amazing Rhythm Aces and Sweet. The new #1 song that Casey teased throughout the show is one of the few in chart history whose label does not match the names of the musicians in the act.
