In a way, I don't want a '79 show. The amount of stations that play 4 hours is even more limited in December due to stations flipping to XMas music. If this is played, hopefully KOKZ doesn't decide to switch. But we still need one or two other stations in case something happens to the first hour on KOKZ. Possibly, they've avoided Dec. '79 because it would be too close to sounding like a 1980 show? I think your right about them not doing December 1979 as most song go into the Jan 1980 shows & plus most of us predicting End of Year Top 100 1980 so about 3/4 are in that Countdown looking @ December 15th 1979 show

Predicted extras:
• "Let Me Be There" – Olivia Newton-John. • "Spiders And Snakes" – Jim Stafford. • "If We Make It Through December" – Merle Haggard & the Strangers.
All three country hits this time. Although Jim Stafford's song didn't quite make the top 40 of the country chart, Olivia was at or near her peak on the country chart with "Let Me Be There," and "If We Make It Through December" – the Okie from Muskogee's biggest pop hit – has a Christmas theme.
Backup extra:
• "Step Into Christmas" – Elton John. (Brand new Christmas song in 1973.)

By that same logic, wouldn't they also avoid playing January and February 1980 shows in the 80's series because they might sound too much like 1979 songs? Remember, they've only been playing 1979 (either whole shows or, originally, with the first hour clipped off) shows for the last few years out of the whole time PRN has been playing the 70's series. December 1979 shows will likely come in due time.

Backup extra: • "Step Into Christmas" – Elton John. (Brand new Christmas song in 1973.) This would be the smartest choice, from a programming standpoint. It was fairly difficult to find that year, as I recall (even though it made it to #1 on the special Xmas singles chart). It had been a Fan Club-only release the year before, I think. But in the intervening decades it has become a bona fide holiday classic, played every year.

Prediction for next week's show:
1st guess: 12/15/79 2nd guess: 12/17/77
We've had two straight shows from the early 70s, so it says here that a late 70s show gets played next week. December has been woefully neglected for both of these years by Premiere over the past several years...I'm going to guess our final two (maybe three) weekly shows of 2014 come from 1979, 1977, and/or 1976. The only way we don't get a '79 show is if the Top 50 of 1979 is scheduled as a year-end special.
BTW, I don't agree that Premiere is avoiding late 1979 because of the similarity to 1980 shows--I think it's like some of the other "gaps" in the schedule where they've simply chosen shows from certain years while neglecting other years. And it's not like they're been hitting early 1980 hard the last few years either...

A new show next week. Cue sheet: charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/12-08-73.pdfOptional extra predictions for the 12/8/73 show: * "The Way We Were" by Barbra Streisand (which debuted 2 weeks ago way down at #92) * "Love's Theme" by The Love Unlimited Orchestra (which debuted the previous week down at #89) * "Jungle Boogie" by Kool & The Gang... debuting on the 12/8/73 chart at #100! I guess program directors had a hard time finding "out of the box" hits back in late 1973? Hindsight certainly makes it appear so, but remember: Streisand hadn't had a big pop smash since "Stoney End" 3 years previously, so Top 40 stations were justifiably skeptical. Love Unltd Orch were an unknown quantity, pretty much (despite the Barry White connection). Kool & Gang were not yet the big stars they would become. Luckily all 3 songs were able to hold on thru that fallow holiday period and become big hits.

No one was 3 for 3 but chrislc and bobbo correctly guessed two songs.

The last time they did it was the 2/26/72 show aired February this year. The song was Scorpio. It was an extra created by Premiere voiced by Casey. I guess the extras this week are voiced by Casey as well.

But back to AT Top 40 70s. Something about "Cats In The Cradle" gets me really emotional. Every time I hear that song I can't help but start bawling (I'm serious). Something about it just strikes an emotional chord in me. To u2rules: "Fairytale" was not that much of a gamble on their part... their parents were from Arkansas (same state as our friend Shannon Lynn) and country wasn't at all strange to them. It's a 'goosebumper' for me as well, even all these years later... ain't many that can say that. Meanwhile, WKIX noted on their site that they'll start 70s Casey an hour earlier Sunday so they can carry the Duke basketball game, but they've yet to post either Premiere cue sheet. dL Here's the latest on Yusuf Islam aka Cat Stevens www.reuters.com/article/2014/09/16/us-music-britain-catstevens-idUSKBN0HB1WG20140916I second “Cat’s in the Cradle” great lyrics. It rings a bell of the famous Cat Stevens tune from 1970’s ‘Tea for the Tillerman’ album, titled "Father and Son" (admittedly one of Jimmy Fallon’s favorite songs period.) Now, talking about Yusuf/Cat Stevens, I remember a good remake of one of his tracks off 1973 ‘Foreigner’ album, that was released as part of his 2006 ‘An Other Cup’ album. The remake called “Heaven/Where True Love Goes” was also promoted on Late Night talk, and was BBC Radio 2 song of the week in mid-November of ’06. vimeo.com/26010342And for comparative purposes from ABC-TV “In Concert” series, the original live rendition from 1973: www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrCBn1sH2eI
