Looking for a 70s show dated April 16th to listen to today, and there’s just one – from 1977. If Premiere had selected the 4/16/77 show to air this weekend instead of 4/23/77, there would’ve been a 6th program in 2024 where the #40 song (Silvetti’s “Spring Rain”) was in its 2nd chart week to lead-off the countdown. Missed it by that much. For the 5th time this year, Premiere has featured a 70s show with an opening single that repeated at #40 for a 2nd consecutive chart week… 1/16/71: Most Of All – B.J. Thomas 2/13/71: Your Time To Cry – Joe Simon 4/8/72: King Heroin – James Brown 3/31/73: Daisy A Day - Jud Strunk 4/10/76: Hit The Road Jack – Stampeders Edited, thanks for the assists

Personally, I preferred Silvetti's disco mix 45, with an extended 5:52 rainfall.

Two out of the three artists are sadly no longer with us Hard to believe that Andy Gibb has been gone for 36 years. I remember well when the news came out that he had died. I was in 8th grade at the time and other than John Lennon, there had not been another artist whose songs I remembered hearing that much on the radio (plus I had watched Solid Gold a bunch when Andy was host) that had died so suddenly and so young. It felt like such a sad ending to his life and once promising career. Andy was exactly one month to the day older than I. When he died in March 1988 just days after his 30th birthday it was quite a shock. On April 5 I given a surprise 30th birthday party. I recall reading a list of 'people turning 30 in 1988' at my party and yes, Andy was on it. And now it is down to just myself and Madonna, as MJ and Prince were also on that list of notable celebrities.

Wasn't her record company still shaving two years off her age at the time? When "Oh Father" was on the chart I vaguely recall hearing an erroneous story that she wrote it because she had just turned 30.

Yes, that is her actual birthdate. What cursereversed is saying is that back in '88 her bio may have claimed a later DOB. I thought she was on the list of people turning 30 in '88 that I saw on my birthday that year, but I could be mistaken--it was 36 years ago!

Early editions of Joel Whitburn's books and Fred Bronson's Billboard Book of Number One Hits gave her birth year as 1959. Fred even mentioned that Elvis's "A Big Hunk o' Love" topped the chart that week.

But it does list Laura Branigan's incorrectly as 1957. It was really 1952.

Missed it by that much. I had not ever heard of Silvetti or Spring Rain until about 6 years later. I was in college and for our Television News Broadcasting class, we had to produce a 30 minute news program. I was also a student assistant for the campus radio station and was looking for some music to use for the theme for the newscast. I was looking through the library and came across this 45. It was a great soundtrack for our news intro. We filmed our reporters racing up the steps of the state capitol and in a few other locations as they were "in the pursuit of breaking news" or something like that! In any event, I've always been a fan of Spring Rain since that time. I don't know that I realized it ever charted until hearing a replay of a 1977 AT 40 whenever it first aired.
