So technically would this show be 7/11/1970 or 7/18/1970?

So technically would this show be 7/11/1970 or 7/18/1970? Except for the first one, the shows are always referenced by the chart week, not the show date. So the one aired on WTOJ is the 7/18/1970 show.

So the one aired on WTOJ is the 7/18/1970 show. The American top 40 air date was one week ahead of the Billboard chart date up until May of 1971. The show from today was aired the weekend of July 11th but had a chart date of July 18th.

Geez, now my adobe plug-in crashes and I have to reload it. I tell you, I'm getting to know EVERYTHING about Clayton Island Tours! Clayton Island Tours of the Thousand Islands is really very pretty. Great place to live in the summer. In the winter when the St. Lawrence freezes over ... not so much. C'mon up.... my brother-in-law Larry Holly does an occasional acoustic set to accompany the view!

So technically would this show be 7/11/1970 or 7/18/1970? Premiere usually goes with the CHART date instead of the air date. That's a bit of a quandary as the very first show, although aired on the July 4th weekend had a chart date of 7/11. Pete's AT40 book also goes by the chart date with a date of 7/11/70 listed for the very first show.

Incidentally, it was the fifth week at #1 for "Shadow Dancing" and the fourth at #2 for "Baker Street"; possibly those stats might have been reversed either that week or the next couple but for some last minute fudging by Billboard, at the, er, behest of RSO or Andy Gibb's management.

Whoa...what a great three hours that was (except for those ten or so minutes the stream was down)! The third hour recreation was masterful. Hats off to Mr. Ken Martin! Superbly done. I agree. Aside from the placement of three extras in the "optional" slot, you couldn't tell that it didn't always sound just that way. Actually, it sounded better than it must have originally, as Ken explained. Next year Premiere should add it to the regular 70s rotation for all affiliates to play.

Aside from the placement of three extras in the "optional" slot, you couldn't tell that it didn't always sound just that way. Actually, it sounded better than it must have originally, as Ken explained. Next year Premiere should add it to the regular 70s rotation for all affiliates to play. I've answered another members question about the placement of the original songs so I'll mention it here. For the record: For chart songs, everything is in the same hour where it originated in 1970. That is, hour 1 went from 40 to 27. Hour 2 went from 26 to 14 and the last 13 were in hour 3. Tom Jones was an extra in hour 1 in 1970 (between McNamara and Crabby Appleton). It got moved to the Premiere extra position. (Most of the early shows time out like that with one extra moving to the Premiere extra slot.) The 2nd 1970 hour had 2 extras, those being Brenda Lee "I'm Sorry" (after PG&E) and Herman's Hermits "Mrs. Brown" (after the Moments). The Hermits got moved to that hours Premiere extra position (not heard on the stream due to the outage ... for which, again, I apologize.) Now, here's where some slight of hand came into play. I moved Brenda Lee to the Premiere third hour extra position. That allowed me to insert "Long and Winding Road" into the countdown since it was not originally played during the 1970 countdown. Casey would occasionally play both sides of a hit, so I felt this wasn't too much of a stretch. Plus I was really pleased with the edits to make that insert and Long/Winding is better know than For You Blue. For the original 1970 third hour I'm guessing there were probably at least 1 if not 2 extras. After putting the 13 songs together, I still needed another 7 minutes or so to make up the Premiere hour. We'll never know for sure unless the actual tape of the final hour is found. The Zager and Evans seemed like a good fit, plus as a bonus, it's from another show which Premiere hasn't re-aired yet. As a side note, if you notice, Casey didn't tell an awful lot of extended stories during his first few shows. When he did, they were pretty short ... so I don't think the extra 7 minutes was used up with stories. The first shows were pretty rudimentary ... "here's song #x by y" ... play song ... "that was y, and the countdown continues" position jingle.

Absolutely amazed at Ken Martin's work. I'm a fan, not a radio pro, and I've never edited anything more than my personal stuff on my PC. That said, I was just knocked over by the edit(s) that must have been used to (properly) have Ride Captain Ride falling from its peak of #4 to #6 (which of course only happened in this one week with the missing 3rd hour).

Ken - I've dedicated a good portion of my life to editing and I came into this a bit skeptical knowing my attention to details. But I was truly impressed. So much so that if you plan on airing this again sometime this week, let me know because I want to alert a number of people who I know would appreciate listening to this outstanding effort. Even if it is a midnight airing, I will tell them it is worth their while to catch this no matter the time or day.

If i as just a normal listener and didn't hear ken martin & Larry Morgan's intros to hour 3 i wouldn't have known that the hour was missing-it was a great job and hopefully next year premiere will offer it to other stations (and stick it on the iHeart classic AT40 channel too ;-) )

Hello, Ken Martin...
You not only brought a "lost show" back to life, but you also did the same for Casey!
If it weren't for you, Ken, we would have never heard this show, again. As a production guy, myself, it was such a surprise to hear how smoothly you put each piece together to make a complete third hour. Casey REALLY sounded natural, as if he actually recorded that third hour, himself.
You were most generous to give up the stream for a "make-good" on the show when your internet connection failed. Had it been any other PD (perhaps with less affection for the show), we would have been stuck with whatever parts did get through, and we'd have to suck it up until Premiere decides to air it.
Because of you, Ken, the "Classic AT-40 Collection" is now as complete as it will ever be. Your efforts are monumental, and the contributions you've made to this iconic show - and Casey Kasem - will live on for as long as AT-40 continues to be a huge part of our lives.
Thank you very much for the time, heart & soul you put into this project, Ken. It truly is a labor of love that paid off big time for fans of this show!
