"Delicious" by Jim Backus was a top forty hit in 1958-It eventually found its way on to "Dr.Demento's 20th Anniversary Collection" which was released by Rhino Records in 1991.

By the way, here's that original recording of Ronnie Milsap's 1970 single release "A Rose By Any Other Name." Much different sound, but very much in the pop-country vein we'd know Milsap music for. www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwaqRXD30h8Brian

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess: 12/29/79 (Top 50 of 1979) 2nd Guess: 12/24/77 (Top 100 of 1977 - songs #100-51)
Going with 1979 for a few reasons. First, the last '79 show played was in September. Second, other than 1972, it's the only year-end countdown that has yet to be aired. Third, I assumed that this show would be a likely candidate for the year-end special once PRN added the 4th hour onto 1979 shows. Oh, and one last reason...the '79 year-end was recently added to the line up of shows on the iheart radio AT40 classics channel...I'm taking that as a possible hint that this is the show.
That being said, my success rate of guessing shows in the 70s series has been abysmal since the start of November. So I am probably dead wrong...but that's my story.

OEs for 12/19/1970 Hour #1: "Amos Moses" - Jerry Reed Hour #2: "Endlessly" - Sonny James (original AT40 country extra) Hour #3: "We Gotta Get You A Woman" - Runt (a.k.a. Todd Rundgren)
The other two extras - Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" and Santana's album cut "Hope You're Feeling Better" - are included in the show.

I posted three weeks ago that I knew what year-end countdown would be featured but I agreed not to post which show until the weekend before airing. The December 27/28 broadcast of Casey Kasem's American Top 40 - The 70s features Part 1 of the Hot 100 Songs from 1976 (#100 - #51). Premiere has not aired this show. The Top 40 of 1976 was aired a number of years ago. Given a two-parter, I am predicting eight possible optional extras would could be featured on Part 1 or Part 2: * "Tonight's The Night" by Rod Stewart (#1 for quite a few weeks at the end of 1976) * "Rock 'n' Me" by The Steve Miller Band * "Fernando" by ABBA * "Shower The People" by James Taylor * "Takin' It To The Streets" by The Doobie Brothers * "Magic Man" by Heart * "Strange Magic" by Electric Light Orchestra * "Over My Head" by Fleetwood Mac Here's the cue sheet link: charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/12-25-76.pdfKKLZ has had the Top 100 countdowns posted on their website... since November 25! Hey,80'sat40fan-I appreciate your telling us what the YE countdown will be for next weekend-Here's my question:is Premiere treating the 76 show as a four-hour countdown or will it be four hours squeezed into three hours?-That's what happened with the 1978 YE countdown a year or two ago.

I don't know the answer as I only saw the post on KKLZ's site mentioning Part 1 of 1976. If they are doing a 4 hour show next weekend, I would assume a 4 hour show would be offered the following weekend. It would be kind of funny if we heard two Part 1's of end-of-year countdowns on consecutive weekends without hearing any Part 2's!

^If history is any indication, the first hour of each foursome will be available, but whether a given station carries it, you'd have to ask... dL

KOKZ should have all 4 hours. I don't know if WODC will be back to regular programming by then. If so, they'll have the 4 hours.

First of all, just heard from Walt Bailey. His oldradioshows site will be down for 24-72 hours. Secondly, there is one artist on this week's show who stands out for being in the top 10 in the first December that AT40 existed and in the last December that Casey did AT40. In fact, for the week before this week's show, he was at the same position that week as he was exactly 33 years later when Casey did the last regular AT40 show of 2003. Talking about Santana who was #7 with "Black Magic Woman" in 1970 and #7 with "Why Don't You and I" in 2003.

If Premiere offers a 3 hour version of Top 100 Hits of 1976 - looks like it would be 80-40 and then 40-1 - wouldn't make much sense to do 100-61 and then 40-1.
Thanks in advance and as always to KOKZ for giving us the 4 hour shows and almost always - all the extras.
I'm betting Mike will find a way to come through on the Top 100 Hits of 1976 - even if it comes as extra offerings after Christmas.

KOKZ should have all 4 hours. I don't know if WODC will be back to regular programming by then. If so, they'll have the 4 hours. I have heard of folks who, usually due to traditional upbringing, believe in the old-school twelve days of Christmas, which last till January 5th. None of them port that tradition to radio that I'm aware of, tho... although where my family lives in PA, the digital sidechannel of a local station that carries live, local weather forecasts 24/7 plays the festive tunes till 12mid New Year's night, at least. Edit: While I think of it, WKIX has brought back Premiere cue sheets, a week before I expected them to do so. dL

It should be the full 4 hours just like the 1975 top 100 was last year. The 1978 show is somewhat of an anomaly -- that show was cut down to 3 hours back in 2007 when Premiere was experimenting with editing down the 4 hour shows to fit in the 3-hour window. They re-aired that version as a B show to the 1970 year ender two years ago. I can't imagine Premiere going back to that practice again anytime soon.

Found it interesting that Elton John AT40 debut (#38 - Your Song) was back-to-back with a cover of his Hot 100 debut (#37 - Border Song /Aretha Franklin).
Also wonder why "So Close" by Jake Holmes was played at #39. Should have been Stephen Stills "Love The One You're With".
