Again this week, Raliegh's WKIX did not post Premiere cue sheets. WKIX finally added the cue sheets for both the 70s and 80s show for this past weekend. The previous weekend is still missing, though. And the 70s sheet has songs in the wrong segment again... "That Lady" and "Midnight Train to Georgia" should be in part ten, but they're listed in part eleven. dL

KOKZ fail -- went to non-AT40 music in the 3rd hour. Began with about a minute and a half of silence in the middle of the AT40 network ads after #11, then Heart of Rock & Roll by Huey Lewis & the News, to what I think is voicetracked regular content.

I'm glad then that I opted for KHLA which played the same show (10/30/71) at the same time, despite its odd habit of playing the third optional extra right after the end of the countdown. (At least they do that regularly, so I expect it.) Now listening to the 4 hour 1978 show on WODC. Interestingly, in the first hour Casey answers the same question that was asked in the 1971 show played this week, about the song that moved up and down the chart the most times, with the same answer.

There are a couple stations that do that. I assume it is because they know the automation will kick anything unaired out at the end of the hour, and if things are running late the optional extra gets dropped rather than the 2/1 segment, which we all know happens far too often on stations.

Well, unfortunately they did not use the original opening movie sequence version of the Halloween theme. Although I do believe the one that used was an authentic John Carpenter on the keyboard version, it had more of a backbeat and did not contain the infamous "key bump" nor the "black cats and goblins" finale. For those familiar with the movie series, could it have been a remix from Halloween H20? I know Halloween 2 features the synthesizer remix version of the theme, 3 has nothing to do with the others. It could have possibly come from 4, 5, or 6.
Or it was a remixed version they did back in 78
Either way pretty cool to hear that theme in the middle of AT40

Has anyone looked at the original Watermark cue sheet for 10-14-1978 on the Charis website? Includes a show rundown with notes on which version of each song is used. The initials "TR" appear at the top of the page. I assume these were notes from Tom Rounds. Interesting to see the "Tape" versions of songs, which I assume were edits made by the AT 40 staff.

CKOC Hamilton ON apparently decided they were running too late to play the final two songs of the 1971 countdown. Oh well, it's not like I need to hear either one (Cher and Rod Stewart) again...but for the sake of completeness I'll have to catch them on WODC tomorrow.

WODC's 1978 running way long -- 12:07 AM and just started #4. In case you are listening tomorrow AM to the replay you might want to plan to have it go a bit long.

The optional extras in the 10/14/78 show were announced by both Larry and Casey, in a way; Larry introed the first hour extra (expected, since it wasn't a chart hit); then the second was recycled from Casey's old shows; the third was Larry leading into a 1974 intro in which Casey stated that he didn't want to see "The Exorcist"; and the fourth was Casey's. Both the "Frankenstein" and "Monster Mash" intros appear to have been recycled from the 10/30/76 show.

As interesting as it was to see that old song list with the various versions considered and the notes from (presumably) Tom Rounds, it doesn't match what we heard today. Get Off was even more severely truncated, for example... I clocked it 1 minute, 19 seconds!

I'm a little surprised at this given their playlist skews about 2/3 70s and 1/3 80s with an occasional 60s tune thrown in. On the other hand, given a couple of other stations like KOOL switching from the 70s to the 80s show... maybe a number of iheart stations may follow suit? I used to live in St. Louis and put up with KLOU's very tight playlist. I am glad to see that they have expanded their list of 80s songs but their playlist still seems very artist-driven.
