Again this week, Raliegh's WKIX did not post Premiere cue sheets.

The first time I am excited for an optional extra- the Halloween theme. Why would Ed McMann do it? Like I said, I'm excited for the Halloween theme as well! Because unless Premiere had Larry Morgan redo them, 10/14/1978 was first rebroadcast back in 2007 when Ed McMann was voicing Optional Extras. Any show done by Ed or Mike Kasem has historically been redone by Larry

I would have gone with "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult, or – since in this case not making the Hot 100 Bubbling Under wasn't even a prerequisite – Buck Owens' "(It's a) Monster's Holiday," a top 10 country hit from 1974 that played on the monster theme.
For extras for the 1971 show, I predict:
• "Baby I'm a Want You" – Bread. • "All I Ever Need Is You" – Sonny and Cher. • "Got To Be There" – Michael Jackson. His first week on the Billboard Hot 100 as a solo artist with his first solo hit. I wonder if there were others to follow … ?

Not sure if this can be done for next week's 1978 show, at least for the John Carpenter track as it never actually charted.

The original Halloween is one of my all time favorite movies. To hear the theme on an AT40 show, even as a Larry extra, will be cool

WLDE this morning aired Aug 4, 1979 (started with hour 2) instead of 1973 which is really strange. Just like the one on Sunday Jul 27, they were supposed to play Jul 29, 1978 as a B part but instead they played Jun 24, 1978. WLDE sometimes occasion have been played inconsistent airing of the date supposed to air

Let's just hope it's the original and not a K-Tel version done by someone else. I'll be able to tell right away. And about halfway into it, John Carpenter hits two keys at the same time, probably by accident.

I will know immediately as well. I hope it's the version off the soundtrack I have that included the "black cats and goblins on Halloween night" tag at the end
Will be tough to find a station playing the B show optional Hour 1 with extra. But for the first time, I will be searching just to hear this segment!

And I also have always noticed the "bump two keys" ment as well. That also happens on the original version of "Linus and Lucy" by Vince Guaraldi

The extras were different then and the first hour was not offered at that time.

Any show done by Ed or Mike Kasem has historically been redone by Larry I think the fact that we're being told up front that the optional extras are the same is fueling speculation that they have may been left untouched from the previous broadcast with Ed McMann, especially given that these are not your typical optional extras (Halloween-themed songs rather than songs that were current for the week in question but not in the top 40). Normally, when Premiere reruns a show previously run during the Ed McMann or Mike Kasem eras, we get newly recorded optional extras with intros and outros from Larry Morgan. But we aren't told in advance what the optional extras are, and they are subject to change from what was previously used. On the other hand, it's very possible that Premiere just liked the concept of Halloween-themed songs and decided to stick with the same songs, had Larry record new intros and outros for those songs, and decided to tell us that the extras would be the same simply because they are. This is arguably the most likely explanation, given that 1) in every other instance where they've re-run a show previously run during the Ed McMann or Mike Kasem eras, they've had Larry re-do the optional extras and 2) they must have had to extensively re-edit the show from what they used last time to turn it into a conventional four-hour broadcast (it's not like they weren't touching the show otherwise). Or they pieced together "new" Casey intros from his old shows, as was done in this weekend's 1973 countdown. Not sure if this can be done for next week's 1978 show, at least for the John Carpenter track as it never actually charted. So far they have only done those "cut-and-paste" Casey intros and outros for shows from 1970-73. I've been wondering if they'll expand them to other years eventually; maybe we'll start seeing 1974 shows with these after the new year? I have mixed feelings about that project. I get that the idea is to expand the Casey content of the show -- listeners tune in to hear Casey, not Larry -- but presenting something as part of a particular week's show that really wasn't seems kind of pointless to me. It also limits Premiere to using songs that Casey actually played on AT40, and to using things in the intro and outro that Casey actually said back in the day. When Larry intros and outros the songs, they can throw in curveballs that never hit the Top 40, and comment on the songs from a modern-day perspective.

I don't recall those extras being used in 2007- plus there would have only been 3 at the time. I think Paul posted them simply to let the guessers know they had nothing to do with the weekly chart

The extras were different then and the first hour was not offered at that time. The first hour was offered. In fact, the show was truncated into three hours, just like the 1978 year-end shows. All the original extras, LDD, AT40 archives, were deleted.
